I recently changed the doctype on my OSCommerce website to XHTML and have run into these problems.
1. [url removed, login to view] appears when you visit the webiste (to tell the customer to switch cookies on ...even tho they already have them switched on).
2. Most of our product pages have dropped out of google (these have lots of original content and had very high rankings before i changed the doctype). I believe this is because my canonical link text e.g.
<link rel="canonical" href="[url removed, login to view]" >
ended with '>' instead of '/>' (I have now corrected this).
3. The meta info does not seem to be appearing in google any more for many pages (e.g. home page).
I didn't really know the implications of changing to the XHTML doctype when i did it, so i made very little effort to update any code. I would like someone to go through the code on the catalog side of our site and make it XHTML-friendly (such that google will like all our pages again). Also I would like the person to take a look at the canonical link system to ensure we don't have any more duplicate content.
I have the following contributions installed:
Sam's Remove & Prevent duplicate content with the canonical tag
...quite a few other more obscure ones and a few personal mods
I would like someone with experience of doing this as our site is well established. Please ask any question you feel might be relevant. I am happy to send the url of our site to anyone who might be interested in looking at the source code before bidding.

We have all the required designer and developer you are looking for and can allocate dedicated resources for your project. You will be very happy and satisfied of our services.
I have a large amount of experience with OSCommerce and I am confident I can go through your site and make it W3C valid XHTML. I will then work through and ensure canonical tags are all correctly specified.
