Hello, We need your help in deciding the best data transport protocol for our whiteboard. This one day (8 hours) of consulting can easily turn into more. After helping us decide, we’ll use your experience in helping us write the code and reviewing subsequent questions. The consultation will be for finding the most efficient way for transferring data from one user’s browser white boards to other user’s browser whiteboards. We have decided against using Flash because of the server licensing costs for hundreds of thousands of users. You can see one whiteboard technology sending a request to a server every couple of seconds at [login to view URL] Other possible solutions are: 1. Build an desktop app using a relay server to update a browser inside the desktop app. 2. Have the server push a whiteboard change to the other’s browsers. 3. Use PunJab and Jabber to maintain a stateful connection. 4. Etc. For us to evaluate your bid, please post a small clue to a solution and your qualifications to do this job. I would go for a solution written in Java since Java has a lot of easy to use libraries for networking. A Java applet runs also in all browsers on all platforms on which a virtual machine is installed. Depending on your requirements you could go for a peer-2-peer, a socket or an RMI implementation. For the price I offer, I'll direct you to a few code examples and turorials to get you started and answer a few of your questions until you get a basic prototype running. I have 7 years of experience in IT and 5 years with Java.

Hello... Your project can be done in flash for sure. Check those application: Flash (of course), zinc, and sushi which is an open source doing the same as the flash communication server... You can add as well some of the amfphp (if your server is running php) to send object (faster) to your flash desktop application (hold by zinc). I've done some updater for local flash application + a project using sushi that I'm sure you'll like to see :) Just email me before anything. Will show u the stuff. Cheers, Xavier

I think using Java will be the best option. Here is a simple way to do it... 1. Keep checking the white board for update 2. Once an update is made, send it as a HTTP push to the other white board. 3. Continue checking as long as the page is loaded. I know its too crude... I can be more specific if we move ahead in the deal.
