Note: the program design/options described below are not absolute if you have better or timesaving ideas. I need a program that monitors a list of urls (see if they're responding). The program should do the following: 1) Detect webpage size changes greater than a variable number of bytes. For example, if user enters 20, and the webpage size increases or decreases by more than 20 bytes from one period to the next, then a change is detected. OR 2) Detect whether a text string (defined by the user) is present on the page. Whenever a page is checked, a log file entry is made with the results. If a change is detected, there is an option for the program to send an email notification. Columns should include: URL to monitor / last checked time / last change time / time interval setting / monitor method: size change or check for text string / monitor setting: max bytes or the text string / alert method: log only or mailto address / error options The error options should allow user to temporarily change checking interval if page is unavailable. Email alerts should have subject "Change detected: url here" and the previous and current byte size in the body of the email.
