Hi, thanks for looking at our project!
We have a simple CGI search script which queries a tab-delineated text flatfile database. The script returns matching records to a simple "match template", which has placeholders ... so, for example, the match template has ##15## in the spot where the script will write field 15 of a matching record. It's all very simple, and the script is attached. You can see it in action by performing a search at [url removed, login to view]
I just need a simple mod to the way that the script handles data. Right now, certain fields contain absolute image URLs, and these are passed by the script into <img src statements in the match template, thus creating a page with images on it. No problem. The change we need is as follows:
IF a record has the string "F" in field 10, then the script should write the URLs that are contained in fields 16-33 as [url removed, login to view]* where * is the contents of the URL of the source record that are AFTER the final slash of that URL.
So, for example, if there is a source record with an "F" in field 10, and its field 18, for example, is [url removed, login to view], then the script should write [url removed, login to view] as the value for that field in the match template.
Does that make sense? It's actually VERY simple, it just takes a while to explain.
I have enclosed the search script and the database and the match template, so you can see how it works.
THREE IMPORTANT NOTES:
1.) This is a project for a mod of a CGI script that works with a tab-delineated flatfile text database. This is NOT an SQL project.
2.) We want a simple, minor modification of our script, not a new script. The mod should be as simple and minor as possible, not interfering with any other aspects of the script, and it should be clearly commented.
3.) In no way should this script WRITE anything to the database. This mod should change the way that data is written to the match template during a query, but it should NOT change the database itself in any way.
Thanks for looking at our project, and we look forward to working with you on this little mod.
Hello, I have worked on your serarch script before. I think I can do this update. Thank you. Ketan
