I have a personal domain registered at Ionos and a fully-running home server that already hosts the site under an alternative local address. What I need now is for the outside world to reach it. The job is straightforward: point the domain to my home server and make sure it loads my site, which is built on a different CMS than WordPress or straight HTML. The server is online and the web service is listening on its public-facing port; I just haven’t touched the DNS settings at Ionos or the router rules needed to expose it properly. Here’s what I expect when we finish: • The Ionos DNS records are correctly set (A/AAAA, CNAME or any required sub-domains). • Any router or firewall rules are adjusted so traffic reaches the server. I am using huwae router • The site resolves from the domain on standard ports, ideally over HTTPS with a valid certificate (Let’s Encrypt is fine). • A quick walk-through of what you changed so I can maintain it later. You can guide me step-by-step or remote in—through teamvviewer. Once the domain is live and I can pull up the homepage from an external network, the task is done.

Hi, I hope you're doing well. DNS configuration at Ionos, router port forwarding on a Huawei router, and Let's Encrypt SSL setup is a clean, straightforward task I can walk you through step by step or handle directly via TeamViewer — whichever you prefer. The work covers setting the correct A record at Ionos pointing to your public IP, configuring port forwarding rules on your Huawei router to direct external traffic to your server, and provisioning a Let's Encrypt certificate so the site resolves cleanly over HTTPS. I'll also walk you through every change made so you can maintain and update it independently going forward. Available to start immediately — this is a 1–2 hour job once we're connected. One question: does your home connection have a static public IP, or is it dynamic? If dynamic, we may need to set up a DDNS solution alongside the DNS config to keep the domain pointed correctly long-term. Best regards, Syed Muhammad Ali Farhan

Hi, hope you're doing well! This is a clean, well-defined task and I'm confident I can get your domain pointing to your home server quickly. Here's my approach: update Ionos DNS records, configure your Huawei router port forwarding, and set up a valid Let's Encrypt HTTPS certificate. I'll walk you through every change so you can manage it independently afterward. A few questions to help me prepare: 1. What CMS is your site running on? This helps me confirm any HTTPS or reverse proxy steps needed. 2. Do you have admin access to both your Ionos account and your router's control panel ready to go? 3. Is there a preferred time to connect via TeamViewer, and do you have a deadline for going live? Azeem Amin

Hi, You’re not really looking for “DNS help” , you want your already-working home server to become safely reachable from the public internet without breaking routing, ports, or HTTPS. I can help you connect your Ionos domain to the Huawei-router-backed server and verify it from an external network. I have strong experience with DNS, Linux/web hosting, router port forwarding, firewall rules, SSL via Let’s Encrypt, and CMS-based sites beyond WordPress/static HTML. I’ll review the current public IP setup, configure the needed Ionos A/AAAA/CNAME records, adjust Huawei router/NAT and firewall rules, then confirm the domain loads correctly on standard HTTP/HTTPS ports. I’ve shared an initial estimate based on your description, and once we go over a few technical or functional details, I’ll confirm the exact cost and delivery schedule. I can guide you step-by-step or work through TeamViewer, and I’ll also give you a quick walkthrough of what changed so you can maintain it later. Does your home internet connection have a static public IP, or should we also plan for Dynamic DNS/automatic IP updates with Ionos? Looking forward to your reply so we can finalize the exact plan. Best regards, Asad

Hello, I understand you need help connecting your Ionos domain to your home server so your website becomes publicly accessible, including proper DNS configuration, router/firewall setup, and optional HTTPS with Let’s Encrypt. My approach is to first verify your server’s public accessibility and current port configuration, then correctly map your domain in Ionos using A/AAAA records pointing to your home IP (or dynamic DNS setup if your IP changes). I will ensure the router (Huwaei) is properly configured with port forwarding rules for HTTP/HTTPS traffic so external requests reach your internal server. Next, I will help configure SSL using Let’s Encrypt to enable secure HTTPS access. Finally, I will validate full external resolution of your domain, test accessibility from outside your network, and ensure your CMS loads correctly without path or reverse-proxy issues. I will also provide a clear walkthrough of all DNS and router changes so you can maintain or modify the setup in the future without dependency. Thanks, Asif

Your home server is already running, but you're one misconfigured DNS record away from exposing internal services to the internet or creating a split-brain routing issue where the domain resolves externally but fails internally. If your Huawei router doesn't have proper NAT loopback configured, you'll be able to access the site from outside your network but not from inside - I've seen this break production environments for 3 clients running self-hosted infrastructure. Before I configure the routing, I need clarity on two things: What's your ISP's policy on residential port 80/443 traffic? Some providers block inbound HTTP/HTTPS on home connections, which means we'd need to use a reverse proxy like Cloudflare Tunnel instead of direct DNS pointing. Second, is your public IP static or dynamic? If it's dynamic, we'll need to set up DDNS with a service like DuckDNS or use Ionos's API to auto-update the A record when your IP changes. Here's the implementation path: - IONOS DNS CONFIGURATION: Create an A record pointing your domain to your public IP, configure TTL to 300 seconds for faster propagation, and set up CAA records to authorize Let's Encrypt certificate issuance. - HUAWEI ROUTER PORT FORWARDING: Map external ports 80 and 443 to your server's internal IP, enable NAT loopback so internal devices can resolve the domain, and verify UPnP is disabled to prevent automatic port exposure. - LET'S ENCRYPT SSL: Install Certbot on your Linux server, configure HTTP-01 challenge validation through port 80, and set up auto-renewal cron jobs to prevent certificate expiration every 90 days. - FIREWALL HARDENING: Lock down your server's iptables to only allow 80/443 inbound, block all other ports from external access, and implement fail2ban to prevent brute-force attacks on your CMS login. I've done this exact setup for 8 clients running self-hosted infrastructure - including one running a custom CMS on a home fiber connection that now handles 50K monthly visitors without downtime. I don't take on projects where the ISP blocks residential hosting, so let's verify your network constraints first. I'll walk you through TeamViewer and document every change so you're not dependent on me for future updates. Quick question - what CMS are you running? Some platforms have specific reverse proxy requirements that affect how we configure the SSL termination.
