ONIX is an XML-based standard for book metadata, usually provided by publishers to booksellers with information about their products. More info here [url removed, login to view] The standards are well defined, and there are plenty of scripts out there, but there does not seem to be an easy way to import to a database without knowing XML and XSLT. This should be relatively straight forward for someone that has worked with Onix before. I need to be able to import both Onix 2.1 and Onix 3.0 files into the same master database. The initial Onix file is very large
(16GB, 2M product lines). The aim is to be able to create a master database that can be updated regularly. I am open to suggestions on what is the best database to use for viewing and future manipulation of the data, which will be used for an online bookshop.
