"Cascadia Now" App shows what it will be like when the 9.0 earthquake and Tsunami hit on the West Coast of North America. v.1 is Oregon. Uses Primarily GPS location and Elevation data, DOGAMI maps: Tsunami Inundation, Landslide map, Tide Tables, or actual tide report in area, additional data to be included. Once the User activates app the various risks are described. If you are in Downtown Astoria OR, your first risk is the collapse of much of the town as it supported by concrete piers and you being buried in the ruble. Second immediate risk is inundation as the mean elevation to sea level falls 11 feet. Next risk is the 35' tsunami in 40 minutes, after that an overlay of transportation failures and utility restoration timelines.
The general app will be mostly used to estimate tsunami inundation zones and times. Users on the actual coast will have ~ 15-20 minutes to escape. Phone will track position and provide topography or Google map. User would attempt to navigate to higher ground before arrival of tsunami. Bridges that would fail are excluded from escapement, almost all bridge structures.
User could chose "Now", random in the next 24 hours, random in the next Week, or random set time period.
I need firm estimates at given scopes. I am a grant writer and work with local emergency response in NW Oregon. The largest obstacle to political will for preparation is widespread ignorance. Most currently occupied areas on the actual coast are not survivable in the actual event, utilities in my town will not be restored for 2 years at a minimum. Our immediate aftermath is so overwhelming that local emergency managers are not effective in developing a response.
It is my opinion and the opinion of many others, that we can demonstrate the need to fund projects like vertical escapement structures, back up water sources, and refugee camp preparations, IF we raise public awareness in a real way.
The developer will be responsible for developing the budget. I will be responsible for funding at selected scope level.
