I would like to develop a mobile field data collection tool, with the following key features, functionalities and interfaces comprise the Form builder, Web service interface, Administration and Quality Assurance, Mobile application and Portal, as illustrated below in the pic
1 Form Builder: A web-based tool for defining complex forms with e.g. sub-forms, tables, validation lists, header areas, and the option to attach images to specific fields in the form. A unique feature is the ability to define application-specific multi-level location hierarchies in an interactive manner. By saving the forms, corresponding database tables are generated for storing the data.
With the Form Builder, practically any paper form can be converted to an electronic form. In addition, data entry errors can be minimised by adding validation lists, data type requirements and range restrictions to numeric values.
2 Web service interface: The customer-specific database can be populated with existing data from other systems and data can be retrieved from the system by other systems for further processing.
3 Administration and quality assurance: The administrator can define user groups and users. Each group is associated with one survey that contains selected forms. Users are given roles such as administrator, modeler, ordinary user and enumerator, and are given corresponding access rights. Each user is allocated to a group and can be restricted to access location-specific data. The administrator can also change the usage mode between survey and monitoring. Survey mode means that existing data cannot be downloaded to the device, only uploaded, whereas in monitoring mode, data can also be downloaded. The administration module also supports the review of access logs for security purposes. With the administration module, even a large number of users can be organized into secure hierarchical groups effectively. For instance, users can be allocated to global, country, regional or team levels, with members of higher-level groups able to access all data in the groups below them, but subgroup members unable to access data from groups at the same or higher levels.
For quality assurance purposes, collected data can be reviewed, specific comments given and correction requests submitted to the person in the field, who can then separately download forms that need editing.
4 Mobile application: The core concept of the mobile application is offline editing of existing data: data are downloaded, edited in draft forms or marked as deleted and uploaded back to the server when ready. Images can be selectively associated with any field and barcodes can be read. Each form gets a timestamp of the edit time, duration of the edit and the name of the editor. If desired, GPS location is added to each form. Routes and areas can be traced and shown on the map in the device. The mobile application supports offline maps, and customer-specific additions to the offline maps
Portal: The portal is used to filter, view, edit and export field data. Data can be filtered by form type (such as school or household), by collection location, by editor name and by time of last modification. Filtered results are shown either on a map as points-of-interest or in tables. Data can be exported to Excel, Word, SPSS, Google Earth, ArcGIS and other common applications. The portal provides an easy-to-use environment for visualizing and analyzing even large amounts of data effectively.
