We have a business that sells high end video cameras for professional applications. Frequently we have to loan equipment for evaluation purposes. This equipment is very expensive so it is critical that we keep track of it. I use a Courier Company Track and Trace App that scans the courier ticket bar-code and I thought that If I bar-coded our demo stock then I could enter the details of the loan into my iPhone.
Please understand that the courier App just gave me this idea, it is unrelated to the loaning of equipment.
So what I envisage is something operating in Windows that generates a stick-on bar-code that is then attached to a product. I then scan the bar-code using my iPhone and enter the product Model Number and serial Number into a database. When I then loan that product out I simply scan the bar-code, it retrieves the product details and asks me for the details (Name; Address; Contact Ph; email address etc) of the person borrowing the equipment. If this could include a search contacts function that would be great. I would then enter the date loaned and the date to be returned. A reminder would then pop up on the return date, ideally it would be great if it could have an option to email the borrower the day before the due date.
When the product arrives back in, then the system has some options to say what location it was returned to e.g. Showroom, Warehouse etc. It would also be great if the system had a search function so I could look up a product and see who has it, an email function that could send a report of the complete database and the status of all products and a booking function so that a product can be scheduled to be loaned out in the future.
That's all I can think of for now, but I am sure you may have other ideas.

Hello. Seems interesting. Could be implemented using ObjectiveC(native iOS app as client) and Ruby on Rails as backend server. This bid also include 3 months support after deployment. Cheers
