Automate Microsoft Project Task Scheduling

I run an engineering and architecture practice and our day-to-day planning still relies on a lot of manual clicking inside Microsoft Project. I want to replace that routine with a small application that automatically builds and updates our task schedules for every new job we win. Scope • Project-management automation only—no client-communication or financial modules for now, though I’d like the codebase to be extensible so we could add those later. • The first milestone is the task-scheduling workflow: given a project name, start date, work-breakdown template and a handful of input parameters (duration tweaks, calendar rules, dependencies), the system should push a ready-to-use schedule straight into Microsoft Project. What I already have • All schedules currently live in Microsoft Project (desktop and Project Online subscriptions available). • Standardised WBS templates and resource calendars in .mpp or Project Online format. • A secure SQL database where job details are stored; you can read from that, or suggest a lighter datastore if it simplifies the stack. What I need from you • A full-stack solution—front-end form or minimal UI, back-end logic, and the integration layer that talks to Microsoft Project through its API, COM interface, or Graph endpoints (whichever you feel is most robust). • Clean, well-commented code plus a short README so my in-house engineer can extend it later. Acceptance criteria 1. Entering project parameters on the UI and pressing “Generate Schedule” creates or updates the corresponding .mpp file or Project Online schedule within 30 seconds. 2. All tasks inherit the correct dependencies, constraints and calendars from our template without manual edits. 3. Error handling: if a parameter is missing or an API call fails, the user sees a clear message and no corrupted file is produced. Feel free to recommend the tech stack—Python, Node, C#, or whatever gives the safest bridge to Microsoft Project. I value clear architecture and future-proof code over flashy interfaces, so focus on reliability and readability.
