During a recent split of two businesses that once shared the same Microsoft 365 tenancy, all historic emails for one of the Outlook accounts disappeared. The mailbox had always been used through the desktop version of Outlook and—unfortunately—no backups or archives were created beforehand. I need an expert who knows the ins and outs of Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, eDiscovery, retention policies, and related PowerShell commands to locate and restore every missing message (or at the very least export them to a usable PST). If you have proven experience recovering mailboxes after tenant migrations or accidental deletions, please outline your plan of attack and the estimated timeframe to get those messages back. The task is complete when I can open Outlook on the desktop client and see the full historical email trail restored, or receive a PST/OST that contains the recovered data ready for import.

Hi, I can help investigate and recover/export the missing Outlook/Microsoft 365 email history if the data is still available in Exchange Online, Purview/eDiscovery, retention, soft-deleted mailbox state, or the local Outlook cache. I have strong experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Outlook, PowerShell, mailbox migrations, retention/eDiscovery, and tenant troubleshooting. For this type of issue, the first step is to verify where the data may still exist: active mailbox, soft-deleted mailbox, inactive mailbox, retention/Litigation Hold/eDiscovery, recoverable items, or the desktop Outlook OST/PST cache. My approach: * Review the affected mailbox and tenant split/migration history * Check mailbox state using Exchange Online PowerShell * Review retention, hold, recoverable items, and Purview/eDiscovery options * Check local Outlook OST/PST/cache if cloud recovery is not available * Export recovered data to PST or restore/import it back where possible * Provide a clear summary of findings and recovery limitations I want to be transparent: full recovery depends on whether Microsoft 365 or the local Outlook profile still contains the historic emails. I cannot guarantee recovery before checking, but I can quickly identify the best recovery path and recover/export the data if it is still available. Thanks, Kashif

Hi there. I understand your looking to recover some email data from before when a change in business organization caused the loss of a mailbox. I've worked with Microsoft 365 since it's inception and set up and managed all aspects of data retention and recovery in my time and I'd love to use my knowledge and experience to help you out with this. You don't say how long ago this was, as timing is major factor in recovery data from a mailbox which has gone offline. I will be looking to establish the exacts dates and the exact circumstances of how the mailbox data was lost. Depending the results we can see what is the best way forward. If things work out ideally then it may be possible to bring the mailbox back online but we shall see. If you have any queries or questions then please get back to me. Cheers for now, Robert

Tenant splits are notorious for this. When accounts are unassigned or moved, the original mailbox often gets soft-deleted or purged, causing the local Outlook client to wipe its cache on the next sync. Because you have no standard backups, we need to move fast before Microsoft's backend retention windows close. Here is exactly how I will track down and recover your data: Step 1: The Cloud Search (Immediate) First, I will use Exchange Online PowerShell to check the Recoverable Items and Purges folders for that specific user. Simultaneously, I will spin up an eDiscovery / Content Search in the Purview Compliance Center. If the data still exists anywhere in the tenant backend even if hidden from the user this will find it and let us export it directly to a PST. Step 2: Local Forensic Extraction (Backup Plan) If the tenant split happened more than 30 days ago and the cloud data was hard deleted, we pivot to the local machine. Outlook leaves behind orphaned .ost files. Since it hasn't been overwritten yet, I will locate the raw cache file on the hard drive and use deep-recovery tools to convert that offline .ost into a fully usable, healthy .pst file. What I need to start: To get moving immediately, I will need Global Admin or Compliance Administrator access to the Microsoft 365 tenant, and remote access to the local machine where Outlook was used. Let's get your history back. Drop me a message and we can start running the PowerShell scripts right away.

Warmly, I can help recover the missing Microsoft 365 mailbox history after the tenant split. My approach focuses on Exchange Online evidence and reconstructing data paths that may have been lost during migration. Plan of attack: 1) Triage & scope: identify the mailbox, approximate loss window, and current status (deleted items, soft-deletes, litigation hold/retention configuration, archive presence). 2) Recovery surface checks: use Microsoft 365/Exchange Online PowerShell to query retention policies, message trace where applicable, and recoverable items (Recover Deleted Items, Get-MailboxStatistics, and related “soft delete” surfaces). 3) eDiscovery strategy: run targeted Advanced eDiscovery searches for the user/mailbox and date ranges, then export results for restoration to PST/OST. 4) Restoration options: restore items from recoverable folders when possible; otherwise export content and provide a PST that can be imported into the desktop Outlook client to restore the timeline. Estimated timeframe: typically 3-5 business days depending on how long the data is still within recoverable/eDiscovery windows and how large the mailbox history is.

The bid amount and timeline above are rough placeholders - we'll firm them up once we know what state the tenant and mailbox are actually in. When two businesses split a shared Microsoft 365 tenancy, email history tends to vanish in one of a few ways: the mailbox gets soft-deleted, disconnected, or left stranded on the wrong tenant side during the split. The good news is that Exchange Online often retains deleted mailbox data for 30 to 180 days depending on retention policies, and eDiscovery can surface messages that Outlook simply can't see. The goal is to get in there quickly, before any purge window closes. Here's how we'd approach this: - Tenant audit: Connect via PowerShell and run Get-Mailbox, Get-DeletedMailbox, and Get-MsolUser to pinpoint exactly where the mailbox ended up and what state it's in after the split. - eDiscovery and Content Search: Use Microsoft Purview's compliance center to run a targeted Content Search against the user identity and any associated accounts - this often recovers messages that don't show up through normal Outlook access. - Retention and hold review: Check for any active litigation holds or retention policies that may have preserved data independently of the mailbox itself, which can be a clean path to a full export. - PST export and re-import: Pull everything recoverable into a PST via the compliance export tool, then handle the import back into the desktop Outlook client so you see the full historical trail restored. After a short call to confirm your admin access level and exactly how the tenant split was executed, we'll share a proper scope document with a firm price and realistic timeline. One quick question before we dig in - do you still have global admin rights on the original shared tenant, or has access been restricted since the split? Best, 96 Studio

Hi, We are available to take this on and get your Outlook mailboxes restored perfectly. The main issue with missing data post-split often stems from how retention policies interact with the separation of the Azure AD objects and the underlying Exchange mailboxes. Are you planning to prioritize a direct content search via Microsoft Purview eDiscovery to map the legacy data, and would you prefer the recovered items to be merged directly back into the live mailbox or provided as a standalone PST file? We recently helped a firm recover critical historical communication after a complex tenant split that resulted in similar mailbox visibility issues. We utilized advanced PowerShell modules for Exchange Online to identify orphaned items and employed Content Search exports to successfully bridge the gap between the old and new tenancy environments. Our approach ensured full data integrity and restored the complete historical email trail for their team without requiring local backup archives. We are eager to discuss the project further. Reach out to initiate a conversation! Best regards, Quantum Code Solutions

Hi, there. I can help investigate and recover the missing Outlook/Microsoft 365 mailbox data after the tenant split, with the safest first step being Exchange Online and Microsoft Purview/eDiscovery recovery before touching local files. I’ve worked with Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, mailbox recovery, PowerShell, retention policies, eDiscovery, soft-deleted mailboxes, inactive mailboxes, and migration-related email loss. My approach would be to first confirm where the historical data still exists: original tenant, soft-deleted mailbox, retention hold, recoverable items, eDiscovery search, or local Outlook OST cache. If the mailbox data is still available in Microsoft 365, I would restore it or export it to PST for import into Outlook. If cloud recovery is not possible, I would then review the desktop Outlook profile and OST/PST options as a secondary path. I’ll document each step clearly and avoid risky changes until the recovery path is confirmed. To begin, I’d need Microsoft 365 admin access, the affected email address, tenant details, migration/split date, and access to the Outlook machine if local recovery is needed.
