Hi, I am looking for an electronics/PCB engineer to design a complete working PCB for my portable hydrogen tracer gas detector used for plumbing leak detection. The purpose of the device is to detect hydrogen/forming gas (typically 5% H₂ / 95% N₂) escaping from underground or concealed water pipes. Main functions required 1. Hydrogen gas sensor interface • Designed around a suitable high-sensitivity H₂ sensor. • I want good stability, fast response and the lowest practical PPM detection range. • Sensor should preferably be replaceable/modular. 2. Active air sampling • Small vacuum/sample pump draws air from a long probe into the sensor chamber. • PCB should control/power the pump. • Provision for suitable pump driver/protection circuitry. 3. Microcontroller • Suitable MCU such as ESP32, STM32 or another recommended controller. • Engineer can recommend the best option based on reliability, simplicity and cost. 4. Display • Small LCD/OLED/TFT display. • Display should show hydrogen concentration/signal level. • Preferably show PPM if the selected sensor supports reliable PPM measurement. • Battery level/status should also be displayed. 5. Audible leak indication • Buzzer/beeper. • Beeping frequency should increase as detected gas concentration increases. 6. Visual indication • LED indicators and/or graphical sensitivity bar on the display. • Increasing gas level should be easily visible to the operator. 7. Controls • Power ON/OFF. • Zero/calibration function. • Sensitivity adjustment if required. • Simple controls suitable for field use. 8. Power system • Rechargeable lithium battery. • USB-C charging preferred. • Battery charging/protection circuit. • Voltage regulation for the MCU, sensor, display and pump. • Low-battery protection/indication. 9. PCB requirements • Compact PCB suitable for a handheld detector. • Proper grounding, filtering and power-supply design because sensor readings must be stable. • Connectors for: • Hydrogen sensor • Pump • Display if separate • Battery • Buzzer • Buttons/switches • Any external probe/sensor connection required What I need from the engineer The project must be delivered as a complete manufacturing-ready PCB design, not only a schematic. Final delivery must include: • Complete schematic • PCB layout • Gerber files • BOM – Bill of Materials • CPL / Pick-and-Place file • JLCPCB-compatible manufacturing files if possible • PCB fabrication files • Assembly drawings • Component reference/designator information • Complete editable/source design files • Firmware/source code for the microcontroller • Programming instructions • Wiring/connection diagram • Basic testing procedure • Calibration procedure for the hydrogen sensor I want to be able to upload the Gerber + BOM + CPL directly to JLCPCB for PCB manufacturing/assembly. Please do not use obsolete or extremely difficult-to-purchase components. Components should preferably be available from JLCPCB/LCSC, Mouser, DigiKey, RS, Element14 or other common suppliers. Important This is currently a working prototype / R&D project, so my priority is: Stable readings → fast gas response → reliable field operation → simple design → easy manufacturing → easy servicing. I do not need unnecessary complicated features at this stage. Before starting the PCB layout, I would like you to provide: 1. Proposed block diagram 2. Recommended hydrogen sensor 3. Recommended MCU 4. Recommended sample pump 5. Proposed power architecture 6. Estimated PCB size 7. Main components you plan to use

Hello, I can develop this as a complete manufacturing-ready handheld detector, not simply a schematic. The design will prioritize your stated order: stable sensing, fast response, field reliability, simplicity, manufacturability, and serviceability. Before PCB layout, I will provide a design review package covering the system block diagram, H₂ sensor selection, MCU, sample pump, power architecture, estimated board size, and key component choices. Sensor selection will specifically consider forming-gas detection, practical low-PPM sensitivity, warm-up/drift, response/recovery time, calibration requirements, lifetime, and replaceability. The electronics will integrate the sensor analog/interface circuitry, controlled pump driver with protection, MCU, display, progressive buzzer/visual indication, zero/calibration controls, and rechargeable Li-ion power system with USB-C charging, protection, regulation, battery monitoring, and low-voltage handling. Particular attention will be given to separating noisy pump/digital power from sensitive sensor measurements. Final delivery will include schematic, PCB layout, editable source, Gerbers, BOM, CPL/Pick-and-Place, JLCPCB-ready files, assembly documentation, wiring diagram, firmware/source code, programming instructions, test procedure, and sensor calibration procedure. I will favor readily sourced, non-obsolete components from LCSC/JLCPCB and major distributors and keep the first prototype practical rather than over-engineered.

Hi, I’ve carefully reviewed your requirements and the reference design. I understand that you need a complete, practical handheld H₂ tracer detector—not just a PCB layout. I can start with the system architecture and provide the requested block diagram, H₂ sensor recommendation, MCU, sample pump, power architecture, estimated PCB size and main component list before moving to PCB design. My approach would focus on stable sensor readings, low-noise power/grounding, controlled air sampling, battery management and simple field operation. I’ll then develop the schematic, compact PCB, firmware and complete JLCPCB-ready manufacturing package. Deliverables will include: • Schematic + PCB source files • Gerbers, BOM and CPL • Assembly/manufacturing drawings • Firmware + programming instructions • Wiring and testing procedure • Sensor calibration procedure I’ll also select commonly available components from LCSC/JLCPCB, Mouser, DigiKey or similar suppliers to keep manufacturing and servicing practical. One important point to confirm initially is the required minimum H₂ detection level/PPM range, since this directly affects the sensor and signal-conditioning choice. I’m ready to begin with the proposed architecture and component selection.

Dear Client, Yes—I’m happy to start with the hydrogen tracer gas detector architecture and production-ready PCB. The key is achieving stable low-level H₂ detection while controlling pump noise, sensor drift, airflow, power variation and calibration. PCB Must Innovations brings 30+ years of electronics/PCB experience across precision sensor interfaces, analog front ends, battery products, STM32/ESP32 hardware, low-noise power design, DFM and prototype validation. Profiles: https://www.freelancer.in/u/electronicsdone I can define the block architecture, recommend the H₂ sensor, MCU, pump and power tree, then develop the schematic, compact PCB, USB-C charging/protection, BOM, JLCPCB outputs, calibration/test documentation and firmware interfaces. The amateur trap is choosing a sensitive sensor but ignoring chamber flow, warm-up, drift or supply noise. Haha, a detector that reacts to its own pump is very sensitive—just not usefully so. I’m happy to offer a free consultation first so we can lock the sensing method and performance targets before PCB layout starts. One question: what is the minimum H₂ concentration you realistically need to detect in the field? Message me with that target and I’ll outline the sensor, airflow, power and validation architecture before you commit. You’ll get a practical path focused on stable readings, fast response and easy manufacturing. Kind Regards Prat PCB Must Innovations

Your detector lives or dies on sensor stability and fast response, so the pump drive, grounding and filtering need to be designed around the H2 sensor from day one, not bolted on after layout. → I've shipped complete handheld PCBs from schematic to JLCPCB-ready Gerbers, BOM and CPL, including a custom ESP32-C3 air quality monitor with PM sensor, OLED, USB-C charging and pump-level power management. → I'd recommend an ESP32 for low cost and simple firmware, a modular electrochemical H2 sensor, and a compact diaphragm pump with protected driver circuitry. → Firmware, PCB layout, 3D enclosure design and prototype shipping all handled in-house, so nothing gets handed off. → Block diagram, sensor/MCU/pump recommendations and power architecture delivered within 3 days of kickoff.
