LINEAR ACTUATOR CONTROL USING STEPPER MOTOR WITH CLOSED LOOP POSITION SENSOR

This project basically like CNC machine which will be built the simulation due to current situation of pandemic that have been face by all over the world. MATLAB Simulink Simpscape will be used to run the simulation of this linear actuator control using stepper motor with closed loop position sensor. This project was invent to improve the current CNC machine for better result but only limited to single axis only. This is in order to prevent and reduce backlash that present in the machine compare to multiple axis. Linear actuator will be used as it have the higher accuracy compare to angular actuator. Parameters that will be controlled in this project are acceleration, speed and accuracy to estimate the backlash present in the machine. Graphical User Interface (GUI) will be created and can be accessed remotely to programmed the task thus can save time for user. All this simulation will be run in MATLAB.

OBJECTIVES

- Modelling of linear motion platform driven by stepper motor with lead screw and linear encoder sensor.

- Design HDL stepper motor controller.

- Design closed loop PID controller for stepper motor with linear encoder sensor as feedback.

- Design a GUI for real time model controller of linear motion platform

SCOPES OF PROJECT

- All work is limited to modelling and simulation in MATLAB Simulink with additional toolbox like SimScape.

- The HDL for FPGA is modelled inside Simulink with HDL coder.

- Platform motion is limited to single axis.
