I haven't had any luck doing this the standard way (I've hired two providers on sites similar to elance, and received a handful of not-so-good logos in return), so I'd like to offer instead a contest.
Check out my site, [url removed, login to view], design and submit a logo or logos (as many as you wish), and if I elect to use one you've submitted, I'll pay you $2000 USD.
When thinking about the logo design, please take into consideration what the tagline and direction of the website will be, as opposed to what it is at the moment. The tag line will be "The Poker Project: database of all things poker", and the site, upon comletion, will be exactly that, a database of all things poker, where users can look up information on poker sites, poker videos, books, and even other online poker players.
Also, don't wory about making the logo in any way match the overall design or color scheme of the site, as all of that will be changed soon, probably to match the new logo. Just be creative and original - I want people to remember my site - I need a logo that will help set it apart from the other tens of thousands of poker sites.
The official contest rules are as follows, and can also be seen on my site in the forums section:
The contest is open to everyone.
Submit as many entries as you wish. You can submit them via getafreelancer, or you can use the Contact form on my site. If you choose that method, simply email me a message, and when I reply you'll have the email address to send your entry or entries to. I apologize for not simply posting the email address here, but everytime I've done that in the past, I've gotten spammed like mad.
Feel free to watermark your entry or entries if you're at all afraid of copyright infringement.
The winner of the contest will be awarded $2000 USD. Method of payment can be via check, paypal, or neteller.
The logo selected, upon payment, will become exclusive property of Kris Fields, owner of thepokerproject.com. The designer may show the logo in his or her portfolio, but any other uses of the logo would require written permission of Kris Fields.
There is no definitive end date to the contest, and I reserve the right to end the contest without selecting a winner. This is simply to protect myself from having to choose between a bunch of logos that I don't like, or that aren't very usable. I hope to, and in all likelihood will, select a winner before the end of August.
If you have any more questions, feel free to private message me, or post them on my forums.
Thank you, and good luck
