I already have a private server running Squid proxy. Currently it authenticates users against a standard passwd flat file.
I want to get away from managing users in this way and instead require users to input their email address and email password which gets authenticated against our Google Apps account.
The proxy is a live server and we need to avoid downtime so testing against a test server would be preferred. I see that there are pre written 'helper' authentication scripts that could be used but I don't have the experience to apply them without risk to our service.
