Our process is as follows and is PER APPLICATION/INVENTION (note that UPWork now adds their fee on top of a providers bid amount):
1. Patent search is conducted and an opinion letter is written within one week. This is recommended, but optional. (The fee is $750, if a search is desired)
2. Provisional Patent Application is filed ASAP if necessary/desired after patent search results are discussed.
The cost for a provisional patent application is $1,600 or 50% of the quoted non-provisional patent application (NPA) cost. Our goal here is to draft a quality provisional application for half the cost and then, if the client later wishes to file a non-provisional patent application based on the PPA, the additional cost to the client is $1,600...resulting in the same total amount paid ($3,200) to reach patent pending status on a non-provisional patent application.
3. Regular patent application is drafted. Time period is 2-3 wks for rough draft and review, with estimated filing 3-6 weeks from start
If you have any questions on my bid or the patent process please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. Note that I can provide (or you can search any free patent database for) examples of my patent work with my firm name on the first page. How many other providers have or can do this?
Sincerely,
Matt Welker, Esq.
