I am using the Google SpeechSynthesis API on a website to help people who are learning French.
The speech has to be close to normal spoken French.
The Google French voice is really good for this. It is Female, and uses standard Parisian accenting. I have developed most of the main site using this.
HOWEVER, when a web page is run using an Apple machine, the voice becomes masculine, with much reduced quality. I assume that somewhere an OS is defaulting to a local voice.
I am only running the site using Chrome as I also use speech recognition (which needs Chrome to run)
It is by the way a free site, with no advertising, so I have no commercial pressures. However, I would like it to be useful for as many people as possible.
I know that Apple machines can access the Google French voice - I have checked using the Google translate site, and it does this faultlessly.
There must therefore be a way to achieve this.
I have searched everywhere I can think of, and the online community hasn't come up with anything.
Can you help me?
A simplified page which generates some text to speak is here:

BTW, the other main Google API to do with speech recognition (which is more complex) works well on the Apples I have tried.
I've taken a look at the SpeechSynthesis API and your Speech%[url removed, login to view] implementation. I've identified the speech issue and can provide you an implementation with the fix to use the feminine voice. Relevant Skills a Plus
