We are looking for an experienced **fibre laser service/application engineer** to help diagnose and optimise a 6kW fibre laser cutting machine. The machine cuts, but we are struggling to achieve consistently clean cut quality, particularly on **5 mm mild steel using compressed air**. Current problems include: * Excessive dross/burr on the cut * Burning/black marks, particularly around corners * Piercing/cut-start quality issues * Difficulty obtaining a clean, smooth edge despite adjusting speed, power and focus * Unusual focus behaviour: approximately **-8 focus can give significantly less burning/dross than settings around -2**, and we want to understand why We do **not know whether the underlying problem is cutting parameters, focus calibration, cutting-head setup, nozzle/beam alignment, gas delivery, optics, machine calibration or another issue**. We need someone who can work with us remotely. We can provide photos/videos of cuts, parameter screenshots and carry out test cuts following your instructions. The goal is to: 1. Diagnose the actual cause of the poor cut quality 2. Check whether the machine/head/focus is correctly calibrated 3. Develop reliable parameters for clean cutting 4. Teach us a systematic method for tuning other thicknesses/materials We are specifically looking for somebody with **hands-on experience commissioning, servicing or developing cutting parameters on industrial fibre lasers**, ideally 3–12kW machines. When applying, please briefly explain your experience with fibre laser troubleshooting and what machines, cutting heads and controllers you have worked with.

Hi, I’m a Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer with experience in laser cutting, CNC manufacturing, process optimization and DFM, and I’d be interested in helping diagnose and optimize your 6 kW fiber laser. I understand that the priority is finding the root cause, rather than simply trying random combinations of power and speed. Your observation that approximately -8 focus performs significantly better than -2 is particularly important and could indicate issues involving focus calibration, beam delivery, nozzle/head alignment, material position, or the interaction between focus position and the actual cutting process. My troubleshooting approach would systematically check: Laser power and actual output consistency Focus calibration and focal-position reference Cutting-head condition and protective window Nozzle type, diameter and concentricity Beam/nozzle alignment Assist-gas pressure, flow and delivery Piercing parameters and lead-in strategy Cutting speed, power, duty/modulation and frequency Material thickness and surface condition Corner acceleration/deceleration behavior Machine calibration and Z-height control Kerf geometry and dross formation For the 5 mm mild-steel / compressed-air condition, I would establish a controlled test matrix rather than changing multiple variables simultaneously. From the resulting cut edges, dross, discoloration, kerf and piercing behavior, we can identify which variable is actually limiting performance. Best regards,

Hi, I reviewed your project requirements and I can help you develop a practical, production-ready solution—not just a visually complete CAD model. I’m a mechanical engineer with 13+ years of experience in product design, mechanical systems, CAD development, engineering analysis, and multidisciplinary coordination. Depending on the project, I can support concept development, detailed 3D modelling, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, BOMs, technical calculations, simulations, and fabrication-ready files. My focus is always on clear drawings, realistic detailing, manufacturability, and fast communication throughout the project. I work mainly with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, Revit, Fusion 360, and related engineering tools. You can review similar design and engineering work in my profile. Once I see the available drawings, dimensions, and expected deliverables, I can suggest the most efficient way to proceed. Best regards, Gökay Zaralı

Having successfully optimized a 5kW fiber laser system for a similar 5mm mild steel application, I understand the challenges of achieving consistent, high-quality cuts, especially when dealing with dross, burning, and peculiar focus behavior as you've described. My experience with parameter fine-tuning and nozzle/assist gas optimization directly addresses the issues you're encountering. My approach will involve a systematic diagnostic process. I'll begin by analyzing your current cutting parameters (speed, power, frequency, assist gas pressure, nozzle type, and standoff distance) against optimal ranges for your material and laser. I'll then conduct controlled test cuts, meticulously varying focus position, assist gas type (compressed air vs. nitrogen if available for comparison), and nozzle geometry to isolate the root cause of the dross and burning. I'll utilize high-speed video analysis of the cut kerf to observe melting behavior and slag ejection dynamics, informing precise adjustments to achieve a clean edge. To ensure we're aligned, could you specify the make and model of your laser cutting head and nozzle, and what feedback you've received from the laser manufacturer regarding the unusual focus behavior? I'm confident we can achieve the clean cut quality you're seeking. Let's schedule a brief call to discuss your specific setup and how I can help.

I propose a comprehensive approach to address and optimize cut quality issues on your 6kW fibre laser cutting machine. With my expertise in fibre laser technologies, I will analyze cutting parameters, focus calibration, alignment, gas delivery, and machine calibration to improve performance. I have extensive experience in troubleshooting fibre lasers and optimizing cutting processes. By remotely assessing your machine and data provided, I will identify and resolve the root cause of subpar cut quality. I will not only address immediate challenges but also empower your team to optimize cutting parameters independently for enhanced efficiency and reduced downtime. Let's collaborate to achieve short-term goals and establish a long-term partnership for continuous improvement in laser cutting processes. Could you provide insight into your current software and controller setup? Are there any specific quality standards or compliance aspects we should consider? I look forward to working together on this project.

Experienced fibre laser service/application engineer for diagnosing and tuning industrial cutting quality. I can help pinpoint whether your inconsistent 5 mm mild-steel results are driven by focus calibration (including the unusual optimum around -8), cutting-head setup/nozzle alignment, assist-gas delivery (compressed air), optics cleanliness/condition, beam calibration, or parameter/process selection. Approach: analyze your photos/videos and parameter screenshots, then run a structured remote test plan to isolate variables (pierce behavior, corner burning, dross/burr drivers, focus response curve, and beam/gas interaction). I’ll validate head/focus calibration and alignment, review nozzle/stand-off effects and air/gas assist conditions, identify likely causes of black marks at corners and start quality issues, and produce a repeatable parameter set for clean edges. Outcome: a clear diagnosis of the root cause, verified calibration steps, reliable cutting parameters for 5 mm mild steel on compressed air, and a systematic method you can apply to other thicknesses/materials.
