Very shortly after the death of my mother, i began feeling words wanting to move through me into oracle cards. Initially they came as images and the words followed afterward. I am not an artist, but I worked with those words and original images in the raw for 4 years and they are always comforting and helped me to find clarity through some very dark and cloudy days. I have over this time simplified the 'oracle' cards to short sentences and rather than having different images on each card, I instead want the words on the front, with simple decoration and then one single image on the reverse of each card. As I said, I am no artist but I am strongly drawn to Sacred Art and would like you to use as your inspiration Celtic Art and especially the illustrative work of the Book of Kells. An ancient Sacred manuscript, created in the 800's AD and now kept at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. I have attached some images, scribbles really, that I have sketched and an image I particularly like of Hildegard of Bingen. I was just playing around and for example, In card scan 1 (attached) the 4 key motifs I was playing with are the apple (my last name is apples), the Ankh, representing ancient Lore, the spiral, a sacred symbol showing up in many ancient cultures around the world and a star, to represent dreaming and inspiration. As for the book of Kells, Google images will show inspiration plenty enough. I would encourage you to be playful with your colours if you think that it would work (but not gaudy - not that you ever would of course). The Book of Kells is a work of extraordinary light and balances some interesting colours, but more playful be than rigid please.
The project itself is to come up with an overall coherent style for these cards. The words laid out with clarity and simplicity, with simple decoration around the boundary of the card. The reverse of each card will be same decorative image. Striking, colourful and pleasing on the eye, but not necessarily complicated. These will be turned into card packs and placed in handmade pouches made of fabric, which I will make my self and each bag in turn will be decorated with a small ceramic motif, also made by myself. The likely selling point will be gift shops.
I look forward to maybe working with you.
