OpenDoorScore is a crowd-sourced website that allows people with mobility impairments to rate businesses on accessibility. The primary audience is parents with strollers, the elderly and their caregivers, and people with disabilities.
Logos should do everything possible to stay away from traditional "accessibility" connotations. (For example--no wheelchairs, etc.) The idea of the site is that accessibility is about much more than just wheelchairs/ramps/bathrooms, and that it impacts everybody. Often times accessibility-based projects can seem stale or institutional--that is certainly something we want to avoid.
The OpenDoorScore website itself conveys the following traits, which the logo should try to emulate:
-"Clean" design (lots of open space on the website)
-Opening up a new world to our users (please do not use a picture of a globe.)
In general, the site should be whimsical enough that it seems hip/trendy, but should still remain functional and clear enough that it appeals to middle-aged and older consumers. (The site [url removed, login to view] is a good example of the kind of community being built at OpenDoorScore, although its design is probably too 'trendy' to appeal to most of our consumers. Similarly, the site '[url removed, login to view]' is an example of the community and information found at OpenDoorScore, but is far too crowded and does not portray the 'clean' design we're looking for.)
I also envision a logo that highlights the words themselves, rather than a large, dominant image. For instance--the logo itself could simply be an artful depiction of the words OpenDoorScore or [url removed, login to view], or include a small image, graphic or symbol next to/around/through the words. (In your mock-ups, please give me an example of how you would display both "OpenDoorScore" and "OpenDoorScore.com.")
Fonts I like include Futura PT ([url removed, login to view]) or Pragmatica Web ([url removed, login to view]). If these fonts aren't used, please consider similar fonts. (Whatever font you end up choosing, do NOT use a serif font, as serifs make it difficult for some of our users to read. ONLY USE SANS SERIF FONTS.)
The logo should be equally powerful on a website, business card, storefront sticker, tshirt, etc. It should be equally powerful on all media.
Finally, the logo should DEFINITELY stay away from the colors red and green, as many of our users have visual impairments that make them unable to see these colors. In my mind, I see a logo that is blue and orange (or orange and blue, depending on your preference), but am willing to consider other color combinations if the designer can make something especially appealing using a different scheme.
I really hope you enjoy the project! This design is definitely going to a good cause--making the world a more accessible place.
