We are creating a guideline for beginner video game asset creators.
We need a professional asset creator with experience creating optimized, game ready, 2D and 3D game assets for iOS devices.
Some of the questions we would like answered in an easy to understand, non techie way, are;
-What are the best formats for 2D image files?
-What's the easiest way to check for iOS compatibility?
-What are the size guidelines for images?
-How do you keep images crisp and beautiful while keeping the file size down?
-What are some of the hiccups of putting assets into game engines such as Game Salad and Unity 3D? (if any), we understand this might be a programming question and you may not be able to answer it.
-What are the requirements for a 3D model to be "game ready" for iPhone/iPad? poly count, closed meshes, format, etc...
-What's the best way to animate 2D images? Sprite sheets or ? Are there any cheap/free programs that do this easily?
-What's the easiest way to animate simple 3D assets?
In a nut shell we would like a easy to understand guideline for making game-ready 2D and 3D assets for use in game engines such as Game Salad and Unity 3D, focusing on iOS devices. We also would like to stay away from criteria that requires expensive software, such as 3DS Max and Maya.
The document needs to be well written and easy to understand with bullet points.
If you have advice that you wish you would have gotten when you first started out, we would love to hear it!
If you only work with 2D assets and not 3D assets(or vice versa) that's ok. We would like to hear what you have to say.
