Game Design

The “Game?? will be developed for children. The Game will be similar to the electronic board game, “Simon,?? in that it requires children to remember and follow instructions sequentially.

Characters include four school children and one teacher. The school children will pop out of a "Fun Wall" shouting directions to the game players who will be required to dip the teacher into vats of gross materials like fish guts and live worms.

The game will have 5 levels - each will be more complex than the first. Players will have the opportunity to play 20 unique games (in other words, we will have 20 different sets of directions shouted by the school children).

**The “Game?? will be developed for a specific website geared towards children. The Game will be similar to the electronic board game, “Simon,?? in that it requires children to remember and follow instructions sequentially.**

****Scope****

**The Game will be developed to run on all operating systems. The Game will not have a multiplayer mode (one player at a time, though concurrent users online is an absolute certainty).**

****Project Description****

**Programming languages: Actionscript / Flash.**

**The Game will not have a registration field. Players will not be required to login to the Game in order to play it.**

**The Game will not be downloadable.**

**Timing & Scoring: TBD.**

**The Game will feature 5 characters: 4 school children and 1 teacher. The animated school children exist in the background of the game design and each randomly “pops?? out from a “Fun Wall?? to offer Game instructions to the player. The player interacts with the teacher, when instructed, by dipping her in a vat (the teacher will be picked up by a crane, once the instructions have been announced ??" player does not need to initiate this activity). There will be 7 vats of material like cat vomit, fish guts and live worms that the teacher can be dumped in.**

**The player must drop the teacher in the correct vat and in the correct order. If the player attempts to dip the teacher in an incorrect vat, a buzzer will sound and the teacher will bounce back up to the top of the game frame, announcing “Detention!?? If the player gets 3 “Detentions,?? he/she will receive a “You’ve Been Suspended?? screen and a “Try Again?? option. If the player loses three lives, by receiving three “Detentions,?? the Game is over.**

**If the player misses the vat, the teacher will bounce back up to the top of the frame. The player will lose time in this instance since he/she will have to begin the “dumping?? process all over again.**

**The Game will have 5 levels and each level will be more complex than the last:**

**Level #1: 3 items; vats move at medium pace**

**Level #2: 4 items; vats move at medium-to-fast pace**

**Level #3: 5 items; vats move at fast pace and other objects will be “thrown in there??**

**Level #4: 6 items; vats move at a very fast pace**

**Level #5: 7 items; vats move at a very fast pace**

**Level Graduation Screens: Will display upon successful completion of each level.**

**Losing Screen: Will display when the player loses the Game.**

**Game Length: Players will be able to play the game 20 times without getting the same list order (i.e., the instructions from the school children will be randomized in order to accommodate 20 unique games).**

**Music and Sound EFX: Will be provided by GMS.**

****Design and Assets****

***Characters* ??" Characters will have “real?? heads and cartoon bodies. Photographs of the characters to be provided by GMS. Animation required so that Characters can pop in and out of the wall (as they deliver instructions to the player).**

***Background* ??" The “Fun Wall?? will be a cartoon version of the photograph. Photograph to be provided by GMS.**

***Vats* ??" The vats and vat contents will also be cartoons. Vats are clear ??" we can see everything inside. Vat contents include cat vomit, fish guts, live worms, chicken blood, pimple juice, hobo snot and ointment. Animation required so that the teacher can be dipped into the vats. “Other Objects?? logos/images to be provided by GMS.**

***Crane* ??" The crane that picks up the teacher will be a cartoon. **

***Level Screens* ??" (1) “You’ve Been Suspended;?? (2) “Congratulations! You Are Moving On To Level #2?? (and Screens for subsequent Levels 2-5); (3) Losing Screen. Text will be confirmed by GMS.**

****Project Functions****

***Game Engine* ??" Single player mode only.**

***New Game* ??" TBD.**

***Save Game* ??" Not applicable.**

***Load Game* ??" Game will live on a “Games?? page. Players will launch/load the Game by selecting the representative icon.**

***Play Driver* ??" TBD.**

***Menu Driver* ??" In charge of startup game selection.**

***Game Logic Driver* ??" How the game is actually played. All the legal and illegal rules of the game, block movement, character storylines for story mode, default puzzles, mini-puzzles and quests.**

***Graphics Driver* ??" Loads all of the game graphics and returns the appropriate graphics formatted as needed to the buffer. Deals with any and all animation of blocks or graphics. No game logic is included in this driver, only things that have to do with graphical display on the screen.**

***Music/Sound EFX Driver* ??" Loads all of the game music, sound efx and voiceover material and returns the appropriate content as needed. Should play, pause, mute, increase/decrease volume when asked to for any piece of material that is currently playing**

***Time Driver* ??" Keeps track of elapsed time. Can be reset to zero at any time, counts seconds based off of the clock time and not the screen refresh rate.**

***Connection Timeout Driver* ??" Check to see if the player is still actively playing the game. If the player hasn’t made a move in x amount of time, driver will timeout their connection to free up database resources for other online players.**

***Player Tracking* ??" Implementation of tracking code so that player volume can be assessed. If applicable, call existing Javascript tracking code from the swf (as long as there are obvious entry points for both).**
