I am an agronomist working with farmers on soil nutrition and arrange for regular soil sampling at GPS located sites. I currently interpret soil tests from approx 100-200 sites per year and most of those have 3-4 depths each
I am seeking a solution that makes for rapid and easy entry of lab data as well as providing detailed and customised reporting options.
I want to be able to create and easily modify report comments that can be automatically inserted into a report depending on the either the soil test result or somehow selecting to do so.
The laboratory (lab) provides numerous analysis options that measure many different aspects of soil fertility - eg
- minerals such as nitrogen, phosphorus, zinc, boron etc etc.
- dispersion index, pH, conductivity
- total carbon
- particle size analysis
The results come from one laboratory in particular and in a CSV format. The database would need to cater for results coming in different formats.
Desired Ranges for each analyte often change depending on geographic location and other factors. Some desired ranges would be based on or calculated from 'rules' that use other analyte results eg the critical level for potassium in the 10-30cm sample will change depending on the sodium or magnesium percent of cations or chloride level or conductivity.
Often there are 3 or depths taken from the one site eg 0-10cm, 10-30cm, 30-90cm and 90-105cm. But the number of depths and the size of the depths do vary.
I will try to upload some files that show how I do it now and how the raw data comes in.

I don't mind if this is done on a web-site if that happens to be a better option. In some ways it would be great to have my farm client provide some details eg the next crop and yield target. They could access old tests also?? I think it would be simplest just to have some sort of database that lives on my computer/cloud but open to suggestions.
The main report would typically be for a single site (with 3-4 depths) and contain 4-5 charts of results (with selectable analytes ie choose what to display) as well as automated comments that are editable.
I would also need to be able to report and compare selected lab results (analytes or calculations based on them), to A) previous tests results for the same site, or B) be able to select and number of sites (again w multiple depths) to compare.
