At my old company one of my staff members built an Access macro that would take multiple records for the same entity and display that data horizontally on one row. His macro allowed for up to 20 fields per record (30 would be great but 20 is fine).
Step 1. Macro imports a .txt file or Excel worksheet (he set up 2 different macros depending on import file type but for expedience if just a tab delimited text import macro is developed that's fine) that has two fields only. The duplicate field (say employee ID) and the field that needs to be displayed horizontally (say employee committee name). I would be the one generating the input file each time. It's content agnostic. Always text fields only with standard text field limits (250 characters I believe?).
Step 2. Macro does its job and produces an Access table with the resulting data.
Input file looks like this (this is just an example not the actual field names):
Employee # Committee Name
1234 Employee Survey
Output TABLE (housed in the same database) looks like this:
Employee # Committee 1 Committee 2 Committee 3 Committee4
1234 Finance Volunteer Recycling Employee Survey
5511 Volunteer Recycling
Now this is purely a tool I need to do other work in Excel. Function over style. Doesn't have to have any slick interface (or any interface), just imports a txt tab delimited file in from a specified location (preferably from "Documents" folder on my hard drive - Windows 7 OS). Even the output fields on the table can be called Field 1, Field 2 etc. This is just a tool to do data manipulation. Input file will never exceed the row limit in Excel (just to give you an idea of scale).
Not sure how this works (first time) but I assume bids come in to my e-mail. I need this ASAP. Someone may already have something like this built, fine with me. As long as it works per the specs above I'm good.
