Product specifications such as dimensions, material, styles, etc. will be provided. These attributes should be selected through data validation, dependent drop-down menus. For example, if finish options are "metal", "wood", or "color", and "color" is selected, a new drop down menu would appear that would list the colors available.
These specifications will determine which materials and labor (listed on a separate sheet) need to be included for those options.
Since it may take a bit of product knowledge to associate different attributes to different material and labor costs, I would need an easy way to specify what costs are associated with what options. I was thinking that all costs (labor and materials) could be given a number, and I would be able to specify what costs are associated with what tasks.
I have done most of the work. The only things that I will to be programmed are: 1) the dependent drop-down menus must appear after certain variables are selected. 2) as attributes are specified, a list of the corresponding costs (from the materials and labor sheets) must appear and be added up on a summary sheet. and 3) certain attributes must have equations created to determine the proper cost (ie. if a product is over 6" but under 12" it will require a $4 joiner piece, etc.)
In regard to #3, This is the biggest part of the project. If someone were to select a 23" tall part, according to a matrix (already input as a separate sheet) it would need to specify that it's made out of (3) 6" pieces, (1) 3" piece, and (1) 2" piece. In addition, it would need to note that it would take (4) joiners to combine those pieces. As I said, I have all of this information input into the sheet, but I need someone to program the equations for me.
Please only respond if you have ADVANCED experience in excel, or if you know of a better program or language in which to program this.
