BIOGAS PRODUCTION PROJECT Title Production and Utilization of Biogas from Animal Waste Introduction Biogas is a renewable energy source produced from organic materials such as animal dung, food waste, and plant residues through anaerobic digestion. It is an environmentally friendly fuel used for cooking, heating, and electricity generation. Objectives To understand the process of biogas production. To produce biogas using animal waste. To study the benefits of biogas as an alternative energy source. To reduce environmental pollution through waste management. Materials Required Cow dung or animal manure Water Airtight digester tank Gas collection chamber Inlet and outlet pipes Gas pipe and valve Stove or burner for testing gas Methodology Mix cow dung with water in a ratio of 1:1. Pour the mixture into the digester through the inlet pipe. Seal the digester to prevent air from entering. Allow anaerobic bacteria to decompose the waste. Collect the produced gas in the gas chamber. Use the gas for cooking or lighting after sufficient production. Working Principle In the absence of oxygen, microorganisms break down organic matter and produce biogas. The gas mainly contains methane (50–70%), carbon dioxide (30–40%), and small amounts of other gases. Methane is the combustible component that provides energy. Results Biogas was successfully produced from animal waste. The gas burned with a blue flame. The remaining slurry was used as an organic fertilizer. Advantages Provides clean and renewable energy. Reduces dependence on firewood and charcoal. Improves waste management. Produces high-quality organic fertilizer. Reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Disadvantages High initial installation cost.
