I have two non-commercial pergolas already installed and mounted on a newly built one-story steel rooftop deck. Each unit sits installed on four factory aluminum inserts that are through-bolted to the deck; the pergola posts are anchored to those inserts with single 10" bolts at the base. The city will only sign off once a licensed engineer confirms the assemblies can resist local wind pressures and possible up-drafts at roof level. I can supply a full package of blueprints, photos, and existing engineering specifications for both the deck and the current pergola installation. What I need from you: • Complete wind-load analysis in accordance with the applicable building code (IBC / ASCE 7) and current building codes. • Recommendations for achieving compliance—additional bracing has already been flagged, but I welcome any other upgrades you deem necessary. • Detailed drawings and calculations covering connection points, hardware, and any reinforcement required. • Engineer’s stamp (state-appropriate) on the final calculations and drawings so I can submit them directly to the city. Acceptance will be based on the city’s approval of your stamped package, so please outline the codes you will work to and confirm you can provide the seal in your reply.

Hi Darrin, I'm Clifford Paul, a licensed structural engineer in Illinois (IL PE License No. 062050588). I understand the scope of your pergola review project and can assist with the wind-load analysis, connection review, required reinforcement recommendations, and stamped calculations/drawings. I will review the existing deck and pergola information, verify the design in accordance with the applicable IBC and ASCE 7 requirements, and provide the required PE-sealed documents for city submission. I noticed the attached PDF is not opening on my end. Could you please resend the file? I reviewed the photos, and the installation looks good based on the information provided. I look forward to discussing the project with you. Regards, Clifford Paul

Hi, I can perform a complete structural review of your rooftop pergolas, including wind-load analysis per **IBC and ASCE 7**, evaluate the existing connections, recommend any required reinforcement, and prepare stamped calculations and drawings for city permit approval. I have experience with rooftop structures, steel framing, connection design, and permit-ready engineering documentation. A few quick questions: 1. Which state and city will the engineered package be submitted in? 2. What are the pergola dimensions, height, and manufacturer/model? 3. Can you provide the steel deck structural drawings and connection details? 4. What design wind speed and risk category apply to the project? 5. Has the city issued any plan review comments or specific concerns beyond additional bracing? Best Regards, James.
