1. Background The project is developing an integrated process for treating mercury-contaminated biomass through acid leaching, solid–liquid separation, washing, and polymer-based mercury capture, followed by anaerobic digestion of the treated biomass. Laboratory validation has been completed. The next step is the deployment of a small-scale, temporary field trial system to test the process under real operating conditions. This RFQ covers Stage 1 of the project and includes: • Mandatory: Fabrication-ready engineering design • Optional: Fabrication, assembly, and delivery of the system A larger TRL-6 pilot system will be developed in a subsequent project phase. 2. Objective of This Assignment The objective is to obtain: 1. A complete fabrication-ready design package for a small field system, and 2. An optional proposal for fabrication, allowing the system to be manufactured, assembled, and delivered as a working unit. Respondents may bid for: • Design only, or • Design + fabrication, clearly pricing both components. 3. System Scope The system includes the design (and optional fabrication) of the following unit operations and their interconnections: • Biomass crusher (small-scale, portable or skid-mounted) • Acid leach reactor (heated, agitated, corrosion-resistant) • Settling tank / gravity separator • Screw press or equivalent dewatering unit • Washing tank for pressed solids • Polymer filtration unit (column- or cartridge-based) • Pumps, valves, piping, structural frames, and supports • Interfaces to anaerobic digestion feed (AD unit excluded) The system must be modular, transportable, and suitable for temporary field deployment. 4. Scope of Work – Design (Mandatory) The design scope shall include all items listed below and must result in a fabrication-ready design package, including: 4.1 Engineering Documentation • Final Process Flow Diagram (PFD) • Design basis and operating assumptions • Materials of construction and corrosion protection strategy 4.2 Fabrication Drawings • General Arrangement (GA) drawings • Detailed fabrication drawings for all fabricated equipment, including: o Dimensions, tolerances, plate thicknesses o Nozzles, flanges, drains, vents, access points o Support structures and lifting points • Piping layout drawings suitable for fabrication 4.3 Mechanical & Equipment Specifications • Agitators, heating systems, pumps, valves • Crusher and screw press specifications (or vendor datasheets) • Polymer filtration vessel and internals 4.4 Bill of Materials (BOM) • Fabricated items • Purchased items (COTS) • Fasteners, seals, gaskets 5. Optional Scope – Fabrication & Assembly Respondents may additionally provide a priced option for fabrication, including: • Procurement of materials and COTS equipment • Fabrication of tanks, vessels, skids, and structures • Assembly and pre-installation fit-up • Factory acceptance testing (FAT) where appropriate • Packaging and preparation for transport • Delivery to the agreed site (location to be specified) Installation, commissioning, and site civil works are excluded unless explicitly priced as options. 6. Deliverables Mandatory Deliverables (Design) • Complete fabrication-ready design package • Issued-for-Fabrication (IFF) drawings • Final BOM and procurement lists • Scale-up recommendations for TRL-6 pilot Optional Deliverables (Fabrication) • Fabricated equipment and assembled modules • FAT documentation (if applicable) • Packing lists and delivery documentation • Basic operation and maintenance notes (field-level) 7. Commercial Structure Bidders shall submit pricing as follows: • Part A: Engineering design (fixed price preferred) • Part B: Optional fabrication (separately priced) • Clear separation of costs for: o Design o Fabrication o Equipment supply o Transport (if applicable) 8. Schedule Indicative schedule: • Design: 2–4 weeks • Fabrication (if selected): to be proposed by bidder Bidders should provide a proposed timeline for both components. 9. Bidder Requirements Bidders must demonstrate: • Experience in designing and fabricating process equipment • Capability to work with acidic and hazardous streams • Familiarity with pilot or field-scale systems • Access to fabrication facilities (if bidding for fabrication) • Ability to deliver to international or remote locations (preferred) 10. Information Provided by Client The client will provide: • Process description and PFD • Laboratory operating parameters • Polymer filtration data • Technical clarifications during design 11. Important Notes • Design-only bids will be accepted. • Fabrication is optional and will be evaluated separately. • Selection of a fabrication option is not guaranteed and is subject to budget and funder approval.
