This research proposal talks about laboratory set-up test facility for wind turbines induction generators as robust and cost effective option. To meet the increasing demands for wind power applications, tremendous R&D effort is needed to develop safe, reliable and cost effective technologies for wind energy. Induction machines available in market are widely used machines for wind power electric generation and work as generators when slip>[url removed, login to view] test set comprises of a range of capacitors that could be paralleled to a particular induction machine in order to identify the appropriateness of matching capacitors under different electrical loads and variable speed conditions. The machine-capacitors-electrical-load set is driven by a power electronic variable speed drive in order to test the machine under variable operating conditions. The testing facility provides training and designing capacity for engineering students and researchers to accomplish full design of a generating wind energy capacity for real-life conditions in a laboratory set-up. This work allows electrical and power-engineering students/researchers apply electrical knowledge to practical wind energy generation and design/construction of real-life generating units. The facility presents a cost effective added value to conventional power engineering laboratories in accord with a growing renewable energy scope.
