Hi, I'm looking for a structural engineer to carry out a wind load assessment and foundation/anchor design calculation for a stacked shipping container structure, with a stamped calculation pack suitable as formal sign-off. The structure: • Three 40ft high-cube shipping containers, stacked 3 high (9'6" / 2.9m height each, so approx. 8.7m total stack height) • Standard ISO steel construction, corner-casting to corner-casting stacking • Site located in Solihull, West Midlands • Open yard setting — no significant surrounding shelter from adjacent structures What I need: 1. Wind load assessment to BS EN 1991-1-4, appropriate to the site location and exposure category 2. Overturning moment and corner reaction calculation (uplift and shear) at ground level, and at each inter-container connection level 3. Foundation and ground anchor design — footing sizing and anchor bolt specification suitable for the calculated loads 4. A stamped/signed calculation pack I can retain as documentation I'm not converting these into habitable/occupied space but they’ll be used to house activated carbon and have an access gentry to change out dust filters, I want the installation properly engineered and documented given the height and wind exposure. Could you let me know: • Whether this is something you're able to take on • What information you'd need from me to scope and quote (site plan, container spec sheets, any ground condition info) • Indicative cost and turnaround time • Happy to provide photos of the site and any further detail needed.

Drawing on my extensive experience in civil and structural engineering, I am more than capable of taking on your shipping container project. I have a keen understanding of the various forces that impact structures and am well-versed in codes such as BS EN 1991-1-4. Leveraging this knowledge, I can conduct a thorough wind load assessment and design appropriate foundations and anchors to ensure the safety and stability of your stacked containers. Being an architectural engineer, I bring a unique perspective to your project - one that balances aesthetics with functionality and sustainability. Although the containers won't be used for habitation, their height and exposed nature make it crucial to integrate proper engineering techniques, ensuring they can withstand their intended purpose, extreme weather conditions included.

I understand you require a stamped calculation pack for a three-high stacked shipping container structure, including wind load assessment and foundation/anchor design. My experience with similar projects involving modular structures and complex load calculations ensures I can deliver a robust and compliant design. My approach will involve applying BS EN 1991-1-4 for wind load calculations, considering the specific site exposure in Solihull and the geometry of the container stack. I will then utilize BS EN 1997-1 for the geotechnical and structural design of the foundation and anchor system, ensuring adequate resistance to overturning and sliding. The final output will be a comprehensive, stamped calculation pack suitable for formal sign-off, detailing all assumptions, calculations, and design outcomes. To ensure we're perfectly aligned, could you confirm the specific wind speed zone for Solihull that should be used for the design? Also, are there any specific foundation types you are considering or wishing to exclude? I'm available to discuss your project further at your convenience.

Hello, I have experience with wind-load, overturning, anchorage, and foundation design for steel and container-based structures, including stacked configurations exposed to open-site wind. I am a good fit because I can calculate actions to BS EN 1991-1-4, determine uplift/shear reactions at each container interface, and develop a practical foundation and anchor solution. I will assess site wind exposure, container geometry, connection forces, overturning stability, footing sizes, anchor bolts, and ground reactions, then compile the results into a clear calculation pack. I do not personally hold UK chartered engineering registration, but I work with appropriately qualified UK structural engineers who can review and sign the final calculations where formal sign-off is required. Final delivery will include the signed calculation report, foundation/anchor details, assumptions, and design reactions for the three-storey stack. Thanks for reading my proposal. Edwin

The risk is accurately calculating the wind load on the stacked containers, a critical factor for overturning moment and corner reaction calculations. I handle this by applying BS EN 1991-1-4 directly to the geometry of the three stacked 40ft high-cube containers, considering the open yard setting in Solihull, West Midlands to determine the appropriate exposure category and wind pressures. I will build the calculation pack using AutoCAD for any necessary drawings and Excel for the structural calculations. The overturning moment and corner reactions at ground level, and at each inter-container connection point, will be clearly detailed. I will use standard structural engineering principles for steel connections and foundation design, assuming a typical concrete slab foundation unless you specify otherwise. I will assume standard ISO shipping container dimensions and steel properties as per industry norms. What is the intended use of this stacked container structure, and are there any internal fit-outs planned that might affect the overall weight or wind profile? 10 reviews on Freelancer at 5.0, everything delivered on time and on the agreed price so far.
