I use a small, no-frills Navi C1 handset every day, but the back-lit display leaves my eyes tired after long calls and SMS sessions. I want to swap that display for a grayscale or colour E Ink panel so the phone becomes as gentle on my eyes as an e-reader. Key points you should know up front: • Touch capability is not required; the phone’s physical keys will remain the input method. • My main goal is eye-strain reduction, so contrast and legibility in normal indoor light matter more than refresh speed or animation support. What I’ll need from you • Selection (or custom sourcing) of an E Ink module that can fit the Navi C1’s housing or a clearly explained modification strategy if a new bezel or a 3-D printed frame is necessary. • Design or adaptation of the driving electronics so the phone’s existing board can address the panel correctly—whether that means creating a small adapter PCB, re-flashing firmware, or inserting a dedicated E Ink controller. • Power-use assessment to be sure the battery and charge circuit remain safe and functional after the swap. • Step-by-step documentation (photos, schematics, wiring diagrams, any edited firmware files) so the solution can be re-produced or repaired later. • A fully working prototype returned to me, packaged securely. Acceptance criteria • Phone powers up reliably and shows all default UI elements on the E Ink screen without ghosting or inverted colors. • Physical buttons continue to navigate menus and dial numbers as before. • Battery life is at least equal to—or preferably better than—the stock screen. If you have prior experience retrofitting E Ink into small electronics, working with SPI displays, or creating custom display driver boards, I’m eager to see your approach and past work.

Hello, This is a non-trivial retrofit since feature phones use proprietary LCD interfaces, so an E Ink replacement requires a controller bridge. I will analyze the Navi C1 display interface (SPI/parallel) and design a compact adapter PCB using an MCU (STM32/ESP32) with an E Ink controller (UC8151/SSD1680). The firmware will translate display signals into optimized E Ink refresh cycles with partial updates to minimize ghosting. A suitable small E Ink panel (≈1.5”–2.1”) will be selected and mechanically fitted if needed. Power and signal integrity will be handled to ensure safe operation and improved efficiency. Existing keypad/UI flow will remain unchanged. Deliverables: schematic, PCB, firmware, and working prototype with documentation. Note: slight UI latency is expected due to E Ink refresh characteristics. Regards, Muhammad Usman Embedded & PCB Design Engineer

Hi, I reviewed your brief, and this isn’t a simple screen swap, it’s a full hardware + firmware integration challenge. I’ll approach it by selecting a compatible E Ink module, then designing an adapter solution (PCB/driver) so the Navi C1 can interface correctly without breaking core functionality. Power behavior, refresh limitations, and ghosting will be handled carefully to keep the device stable and actually usable day to day. You’ll get a fully working prototype plus clear documentation (wiring, schematics, steps) so it can be reproduced or repaired. The focus will be on reliability and readability, not forcing features the device doesn’t support. Quick question, do you have access to the phone’s firmware or chipset details for display interfacing? Best regards, Muskan

Dear Client, The real challenge here is not simply replacing a screen. It is making an E-Ink display behave predictably within a phone system that was never designed to drive it—especially when dealing with refresh behavior, controller compatibility, power constraints, and UI timing. With 11+ years of experience in embedded electronics, display interfacing, and hardware-level integration, I focus on solutions that work reliably in real-world conditions—not just proof-of-concept setups. ✅ Select and integrate a suitable E-Ink module with proper mechanical fit or enclosure modification strategy ✅ Design stable interfacing (SPI/parallel + controller handling) between the phone’s mainboard and the E-Ink panel ✅ Ensure clean power behavior and battery safety with accurate consumption profiling The key here is making the display updates deterministic and readable, even with slower refresh characteristics of E-Ink, while preserving the phone’s original input workflow. Quick question: Do you already have access to the Navi C1’s display interface specifications or schematics, or would reverse engineering be part of the scope? If aligned, share any available hardware details and I’ll outline the most reliable integration approach. Regards, Avi Gupta Quality is never an accident
