A sound activated noise recorder which would take the form of a “USB key stick” (or similar) that would
then be able to download its data into a spreadsheet
It should have a threshold setting mechanism (either a physical "wheel" etc or via a PC/MAC) to enable the user to set the threshold at which the device activates. It should actually record the sound itself for playback purposes if triggered. Should be able to record short bursts of sound across an 8 hour period or longer (not continuous recording - only when threshold reached)
The device should be battery powered (rechargeable via USB) , robust and splash-proof and have a cover for the USB connector (Metal? screw on?)
Size and weight similar to a USB flash drive
On/off switch (optionally combined with a threshold setting wheel - like a volume control wheel that clicks off at the end of the turn)
It should have an indicator lamp (LED) that shows it is switched on and another (or colour change) to show that it has registered a sound. Battery low warning via colour change
It should have a clock function that can be set when connected to a PC/MAC and that will then be capable of time stamping the data so that noise recording frequency and duration can be assessed.
When connected to a computer via USB 2.0 the data recorded should be accessible (ideally password protected) such that the it can be uploaded onto the PC and into a “spreadsheet” for analysis.
Need a cost on design and b uild of 500pcs initially please but would like to be able to test prototype before prod run
Computer software - optional
#1 - GUI to assist with the configuration of settings on the device
#2 - website that will accept the uploaded data to provide a report of collected data as a service to users

We do the sound data logger with Atmel Atmega microcontroller. We can do the sound digitization and record into a mini sd card. We can do the GUI software application for the pc side to configure/download the sound Plus
