Hi! "Pressure pad + thermoformed plastic + electrical tape" is a mechanical foil switch closing a circuit under weight — that's a basic alarm circuit, not a job for a microcontroller or radio. I work in embedded, and I'd be doing you a disservice recommending an MCU here — it adds cost and failure points for zero functional gain on this build. The part that actually needs engineering isn't the switch — it's making it survive an outdoor pitch. Foil-and-tape pressure mats are standard in commercial floor- and door-alarm loops, and the failure mode I've seen kill them fastest is moisture and cleat-impact fatigue tearing the contact — the pad goes silently dead, and nobody finds out until a real fall doesn't trigger it. How I'd address that: wire the pad normally-closed with a supervised loop — a resistor bridging the contact instead of a bare open/close switch. A torn or degraded contact from impact or condensation then reads as a distinct fault/tamper state instead of silently failing to alarm. It's a few cents in parts, but it turns "did it break, or did nobody step on it" from unknowable into detectable — the same principle used in commercial pressure-mat and door-alarm loops.
