I have a WordPress website hosted on Cloudways that has repeatedly gone offline with the WordPress “There has been a critical error on this website” message. I need an experienced WordPress security/malware specialist to investigate the root cause, restore the website safely and make sure the underlying problem is properly resolved rather than simply getting the site temporarily online again. The site is an active membership/business website using MemberPress, Elementor and a number of other plugins, so preserving the database, existing user accounts, memberships and website functionality is important. What I need: I need someone experienced specifically with WordPress security/malware remediation and Cloudways, not simply general WordPress design. I need you to investigate the current PHP/WordPress fatal error, examine the Cloudways application/error/access logs, investigate all current malware detections, investigate a strange php file that may be causing issues and determine whether the WordPress installation has actually been compromised. If malware is present, I need the infection properly removed, any persistence/backdoors identified, compromised WordPress/core/plugin files replaced with verified clean copies and the likely entry point investigated where possible. I also need the WordPress database checked for suspicious users, injected content/code or other indicators of compromise. Existing MemberPress users, memberships and business data need to be preserved. Important: Please do not simply restore an old backup, disable random plugins until the site loads or delete files identified by a scanner without investigating them. We’ve already tried restoring backups and the problem has returned. I need someone who can diagnose the underlying cause. When applying, please tell me specifically about your experience with: * Cloudways-hosted WordPress sites * WordPress malware/backdoor investigation and removal * PHP fatal-error debugging * File/database integrity investigation * Investigating server/application/access logs Please also explain briefly how you would approach diagnosing this particular problem. Generic copy-and-paste applications will not be considered. The website is currently offline, so I am looking for someone who can begin as soon as possible. Thank you!

Hi, Could you provide access details for the Cloudways account to investigate and resolve this critical error? I have extensive experience dealing with WordPress malware and security issues, particularly on Cloudways-hosted sites. To tackle the problem, I’ll start by diving into the application and access logs to identify any unusual activity or potential backdoors. I’ll also examine the strange PHP file mentioned, check the integrity of core and plugin files, and look for any suspicious users in the database. My approach is thorough; I’ll ensure that any malware is completely removed and the site’s functionality is restored without merely applying temporary fixes. With 12+ years in WordPress security, I’ve successfully handled similar cases and fully understand protecting Memberships and user data. I’m ready to jump in and help. Best, Priyanka

This is clearly not a backup-restore problem if the site keeps returning to the same critical error, especially on a MemberPress business site where users, subscriptions, and data integrity matter. The real risk here is hidden persistence: a malicious PHP file, reinfected core/plugin files, or a database-level compromise that brings the issue back after a temporary recovery. I’d start with Cloudways app/error logs, PHP fatal traces, and file-change review first, then verify WordPress/plugin integrity and inspect the database without touching membership data. I’ve handled WordPress malware cleanup and fatal-error recovery on Cloudways-hosted sites where the issue was not the visible error itself, but the reinfection point or a backdoor left behind in writable paths, cron, or injected code. I’m also comfortable working around Elementor-heavy installs and membership plugins where restoring access is only one part of the job and preserving functionality is just as important. To move fast, I can also document exactly what caused the outage and what was cleaned or replaced. - Do you already know the exact suspicious PHP file path/name that needs investigation? - Do you have Cloudways app/server log access ready so I can check the fatal chain immediately? - Have any malware scanners or hosts already flagged specific files, users, or database tables?

Hello, I can investigate the recurring WordPress critical error and malware indicators on your Cloudways-hosted website while protecting MemberPress users, memberships, database records, and Elementor functionality. My approach would be to first secure a forensic snapshot, review PHP fatal errors alongside Cloudways application, access, and server logs, then trace the suspicious PHP file and correlate detections with modified files, users, database content, and persistence mechanisms. I would verify WordPress core and plugin integrity against clean sources, remove confirmed malware and backdoors, identify the likely entry point, and test the site without relying on blind restoration or indiscriminate plugin disabling. I would also provide a concise remediation summary and hardening recommendations to reduce recurrence. I am ready to begin promptly and methodically restore the site safely. Regards Muhammad

Hello, I understand the urgency of restoring your offline WordPress membership website without risking MemberPress users, memberships, or business data. I would methodically review Cloudways application, access, and PHP logs; reproduce the fatal error; inspect the suspicious PHP file; and verify WordPress, plugin, and database integrity before making changes. My approach would prioritize forensic investigation over disabling plugins or restoring an old backup, including checking persistence, backdoors, suspicious accounts, injected database content, and the likely entry point. I would then replace compromised files with verified clean copies, harden the installation, and validate Elementor, MemberPress, logins, and core functionality. I would start by correlating the WordPress critical error with Cloudways application, PHP, and access logs, then inspect the strange PHP file and malware detections before changing plugins or restoring anything. I’ll determine whether the failure is a genuine compromise, a PHP/plugin fault, or both, while preserving MemberPress users, memberships, orders, and business data. I’ll trace persistence and the likely entry point, compare core/plugin files against verified clean copies, inspect database users and injected content, and remove backdoors only after confirming their role. My WordPress/PHP debugging experience includes restoring a blank wp-admin by tracing it to an outdated caching plugin incompatible with the server PHP. Within 3 days, you’ll receive a restored working site with the root cause addressed and a clear summary of the findings. Do you have Cloudways access and the current malware scanner findings, including the suspicious filename? Muhammad Saad

A recurring WordPress crash after restores usually means the cause is still inside the system—not the backup. I can investigate the infection and fatal error at the source and fix it without risking your MemberPress users, memberships, or business data. I will trace Cloudways logs, PHP fatal errors, suspicious files, malware indicators, WordPress/core/plugin integrity, database injections, unauthorized users, and possible persistence/backdoors before making changes. If compromised, I will remove the infection, replace affected files with verified clean copies, identify the likely entry point, and harden the site against recurrence. Quick Questions Can you provide Cloudways access and the latest malware/error reports? Do you have SSH access available for deeper file and log investigation? I can begin immediately and focus on finding the actual root cause rather than applying another temporary restore.

It sounds like you need a thorough investigation into the PHP errors and potential malware without just applying temporary fixes. With 7+ years of experience in WordPress security and malware remediation, I can help identify the root cause of your website's problems and ensure a permanent solution. Hi, The rule about not restoring old backups is the right instinct. A backup that predates the compromise just carries the same backdoor forward, which is likely why the error keeps returning. I'd start read-only: pull the Cloudways application, error and access logs, isolate the timestamp of that strange PHP file, then diff core, MemberPress and Elementor files against verified clean copies to find injected code and any persistence like cron jobs or mu-plugins. Only after the entry point is mapped do we clean, then check the database for rogue admin users and injected content, keeping all real MemberPress users intact. We've done Cloudways WordPress work with Elementor and Stripe before: Ghana Badminton: managed on DigitalOcean with WordPress. One question: is the strange PHP file inside wp-content or at web root? Since backups were already restored and the problem returned, the real job here is finding what survives the restore or what keeps re-triggering the fatal error. With MemberPress involved, the wrong shortcut can break active memberships or user access, so I’d approach this as a forensic cleanup: review Cloudways logs, isolate the PHP fatal source, inspect the suspicious file, compare core/plugin files against clean versions, and check the database for injected code or unauthorized users. My background here is in WordPress troubleshooting beyond design work: malware removal, backdoor tracing, plugin/theme integrity checks, and server-side log review when a site shows only the generic “critical error” message. I’ve also worked on live business sites where preserving data mattered more than taking quick destructive actions that only hide symptoms. If helpful, I can also note hardening actions to reduce the chance of the same issue coming back after cleanup. - Do you have staging available on Cloudways, or will the investigation be done directly on the live app? - Have you noticed any recent plugin/theme updates before the repeated failures started? - Is there any known admin account activity that looked unfamiliar before the site went offline?

Hi, I'm Denis, a full-stack developer specializing in WordPress security, malware remediation, and PHP debugging on Cloudways. I understand your situation. The critical error returning after backup restores indicates a persistent backdoor, compromised plugin/theme, or database-level compromise. A quick plugin disable won't solve this—the root cause remains. Here's my approach: I'll pull Cloudways error logs, PHP logs, and access logs to identify the fatal error and its origin. Then I'll systematically scan your WordPress installation—checking for suspicious database users, examining plugin and theme files for injected code, and investigating that suspicious PHP file. I'll analyze file modification timestamps to understand the infection timeline. Once malware is identified, I'll locate the entry point, remove the infection completely, check for backdoors, and replace compromised files with verified clean versions. Your MemberPress database and user data remain intact throughout. The key difference: diagnosis before action. I won't blindly restore backups or delete files. I'll identify what's broken and why it keeps returning. I've handled similar persistent infections on Cloudways from plugin vulnerabilities and outdated WordPress installations. The pattern becomes clear once you examine logs and file history properly. One risk: if the infection stems from a plugin vulnerability, we may need to update or replace that plugin. I'll handle this carefully to preserve functi

Hello, I can investigate and remediate this properly rather than simply restoring a backup or disabling plugins. I have experience with Cloudways WordPress, malware/backdoor investigation, PHP fatal errors, file/database integrity checks, and server/application logs**. Since the site uses MemberPress and Elementor, I’ll take extra care to preserve users, memberships and existing business data. My approach would be to first secure and snapshot the current state, review the Cloudways and WordPress logs to identify the actual fatal error, then inspect suspicious PHP files, WordPress/plugin files, database entries, users and persistence mechanisms. If malware is confirmed, I’ll remove the infection, replace compromised files with verified clean copies, and investigate the likely entry point. After remediation, I’ll thoroughly test the site and monitor the logs to make sure the issue is actually resolved. I’m available to start immediately.
