I am looking for a developer to build a scalable UK platform for the food trading and event catering industry. This is not just a simple directory website. The long-term goal is to connect food traders, event organisers, suppliers, service providers and staff/jobseekers in one platform. The first version needs to be affordable, but the database and architecture must be built properly so future features can be added without rebuilding the whole site. Main user types: Food Traders Event Organisers Suppliers / Service Providers Staff / Jobseekers Admin / Moderator FOOD TRADERS Food traders should register for free and create structured searchable profiles including: Trading name Contact details Location/postcode Travel radius Food type/cuisine Dietary options Trading unit type, such as gazebo, trailer, food truck, vintage trailer, container, Airstream, horsebox, etc. Unit size Power requirements Water requirements LPG/generator use Photos of unit and food Food hygiene rating Local authority Public liability insurance level and expiry date Traders may have more than one trading unit. All important information must be stored as structured searchable fields, not just free text. EVENT ORGANISERS Organisers should create a profile and then create multiple event listings. Each event should include: Event name Location/postcode Dates Event type Expected attendance Previous attendance Years running Number of traders expected Pitch fee Percentage of turnover if applicable Deposit Electricity included or charged Power available Water/waste facilities Photos from previous events Trader requirements Minimum hygiene rating Minimum insurance Unit types accepted Food categories wanted Maximum unit dimensions Traders should eventually be able to search events by location, distance, date, attendance, cost and facilities. Organisers should be able to search traders by food type, location, unit type, hygiene rating, insurance and other filters. SUPPLIERS There should be a supplier/service directory for businesses such as: Food wholesalers Packaging suppliers Catering equipment suppliers Refrigeration engineers Gas engineers Electricians Equipment repairs Generators/power Waste/water services Signage/printing Stand/trailer builders Insurance Accountancy Transport/logistics Staffing agencies Supplier profiles will eventually be paid listings. STAFF / JOBSEEKERS Staff should be able to create profiles similar to Indeed, including: Location Travel radius Availability Experience Preferred roles Own transport Driving licence Qualifications Food hygiene certificate Expected hourly/day rate Future functionality should allow traders and organisers to post jobs/shifts. COMMUNITY / FORUM There should be a trader-only forum with categories including: Event Feedback Staff Needed Support Needed Future AI-assisted moderation should flag abusive, threatening, discriminatory, spammy or potentially defamatory posts, while admin retains final control. MARKETPLACE Traders should be able to sell used equipment such as: Fryers Refrigeration Generators Gazebos Signs Trailers Containers Complete catering units Vehicles Other trade equipment Normal equipment listings may be free, while complete units/trailers/containers should support a small paid listing fee. ANNOUNCEMENTS / ADVERTISING Admin should be able to send targeted announcements or adverts to: All users Traders Organisers Suppliers Staff Specific regions These could appear on the homepage, dashboards, announcement feeds and later by email/push notifications. FUTURE FEATURES The first version does not need all of these, but the architecture must support them later: Event applications Trader shortlisting Saved searches Alerts Internal messaging Document uploads Insurance/certificate expiry reminders Verification badges Stripe subscriptions Featured profiles Featured events Paid adverts Job applications Availability calendars Event management dashboards Mobile app/API Advanced analytics AI moderation IMPORTANT TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS I need the developer to explain: 1. What platform/framework you recommend and why. 2. How the database will be structured. 3. Whether one user can have multiple roles. 4. How radius/location search will work. 5. How advanced filtering will work. 6. Whether admin can add/edit categories without coding. 7. Whether all data can be exported. 8. Whether the website can be moved to another host. 9. Whether another developer can take over later. 10. Who owns the custom code and database. 11. What paid plugins/licences are required. 12. Whether Stripe can be added later. 13. Whether an API can be added later for a mobile app. 14. How future event applications will connect traders and events. Before full development, I would also like a simple database/ERD diagram showing how users, traders, trading units, organisers, events, applications, suppliers, staff, jobs and marketplace listings connect. The key requirement is: I do not want Stage 1 built cheaply and then later discover that future features require the whole website to be rebuilt. Please quote separately for: Phase 1 — technical planning/database structure Phase 2 — MVP build Phase 3 — future optional features The initial MVP should focus on trader profiles, organiser/event listings, supplier profiles, staff profiles, search/filtering, basic marketplace, basic forum, announcements and admin management.

Hi — Elias here from Miami. I understand you're looking to build a scalable platform for food trading and event catering in the UK. This involves not just the user-facing elements but also a robust backend to handle transactions, user roles, and various integrations. A common issue in systems like this is ensuring scalability while maintaining reliability and ease of use. The tricky part is managing the complexity of user permissions and the workflow between different stakeholders, which can lead to bottlenecks if not properly structured. My approach would be to design a modular architecture that allows for easy integration of additional features as the platform grows. I prioritize maintainability and stability, ensuring that the codebase can adapt as needs evolve. I've worked on similar marketplaces where I implemented efficient APIs and user role management systems, which streamlined operations significantly. A few questions to better understand the scope: Q1 – What specific user roles do you envision for the platform? Q2 – Are there any existing payment gateways you prefer for transactions? Q3 – How do you plan to handle user notifications and communications? Happy to go through the details and suggest the best technical approach. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello, ✅ Your real goal isn’t just an MVP directory — it’s a scalable UK food trading and event catering platform with the right database and architecture so traders, organisers, suppliers, staff, marketplace, forum, announcements, and later applications/API can grow without a rebuild. We’re a backend-focused team with 8+ years in PHP/Laravel/Node. We've shipped 100+ Laravel/Symfony/Node backends — APIs, payment integrations, CRMs, SaaS. Top Rated on Freelancer, long-term partnerships with multiple SaaS clients. For this, I’d recommend Laravel with a properly normalised relational schema, role-based accounts, searchable structured fields, admin-managed categories, exportable data, and host-independent code. We can start with Phase 1 technical planning: framework recommendation, ERD/database diagram, search strategy, future-proof feature mapping, and clear separate pricing for MVP vs later modules like Stripe, messaging, reminders, and mobile API. Two backend questions: 1. Do you want one account to support multiple roles from day one (e.g. trader + organiser + supplier), with separate profile tables tied to one user record? 2. For radius/location search, are you happy using postcode geocoding + lat/long queries in MySQL/Postgres, or do you expect heavier geo-search scale that may justify PostGIS/Elastic later? Happy to dive into the API spec and ERD approach — message me. Please let me know your thoughts. Looking forward, Roman

Your key worry — Stage 1 built cheaply then needing a rebuild — is really a data-model question, so let me answer your list directly. I'd build on Laravel with Postgres (PostGIS) and a Filament admin: mature, cheap to host, and easy for any other UK developer to take over. Structure: one users table with a roles pivot, so yes, one person can be trader + organiser + jobseeker at once; trading_units hangs off traders (multiple units each), events off organisers, plus suppliers, staff_profiles, jobs, marketplace_listings and a polymorphic applications table so event applications and job applications share one flow later. Radius search uses geocoded postcodes and PostGIS ST_DWithin, so "events within 50 miles" is a real query, not a text match. Filtering is structured columns and lookup tables — cuisine, unit type, dietary, power — all editable by admin from the panel without code. Full CSV/SQL export, standard hosting so it moves anywhere, and you own 100% of the code and database. No paid plugins needed; Stripe and a REST/JSON API for a mobile app slot in later without schema changes. Phase 1 gives you the ERD before a line of code is written, then the MVP: trader, organiser/event, supplier and staff profiles, search, marketplace, forum, announcements, admin. One quick thing — should traders' insurance and hygiene details be visible to everyone, or only to logged-in organisers? Muhammad Saad

Hey, I’ve carefully reviewed your project, and I understand you need a scalable UK marketplace where traders, organisers, suppliers, and staff can connect without requiring a future rebuild. I’d approach Phase 1 around a properly normalized database and ERD, role-based architecture, location/radius search, and extensible APIs. For the MVP, I’d recommend Laravel + React + PostgreSQL, providing strong foundations for advanced filtering, multi-role users, marketplace listings, moderation, and future Stripe/mobile API integration. I’ll build structured profiles, event/trader discovery, supplier/staff directories, marketplace, forum, announcements, and admin-managed categories with clean documentation and exportability. I can provide separate Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 estimates. One quick question: should a single account be able to hold multiple roles, such as Trader + Supplier? Hello!, I am a Florida-based senior software engineer(frontend, backend, ecommerce, etc) with 15+ years of experience building scalable web platforms, marketplaces, APIs, and mobile-ready systems. I read your project description carefully, and the core goal is clear: a reliable UK food trading and event catering platform that can grow without becoming hard to manage. I’ve built production systems where listings, user roles, booking-style flows, payments, and admin controls all had to work smoothly together. For this project, I’d handle it in clear phases: define the marketplace flow, design the database and APIs, build the core web platform, set up cloud deployment and security, then test the full user journey before launch. Relevant work includes a regional supplier marketplace for hospitality vendors, a booking platform for a catering network, a cloud-based service directory with admin moderation, and a mobile-friendly event coordination dashboard. Could you please clarify the following questions to help me better understand the project? 1) Will the platform need separate accounts for caterers, buyers, and admins, or one shared user type? 2) Do you want payments and commission handling in the first version, or should we start with listings and enquiries? 3) Should this launch as a web app first, or do you want mobile app support from day one? I’m very detail-focused, and I make sure the structure is right before coding, so the final result is stable and scalable.

Hi! I can build this as a scalable multi-role platform, not a basic directory. I’d start with Phase 1 technical planning and a clear ERD covering users, traders, trading units, organisers, events, suppliers, staff, jobs, applications, marketplace listings, and future relationships. ? For the MVP, I’d recommend an API-ready modern stack with structured database fields, multiple roles per account, postcode/radius search, advanced filtering, admin-managed categories, profiles, events, marketplace, forum, announcements, exports, and secure moderation tools. Everything would be portable and documented so another developer can maintain it later. Most importantly, the architecture would already support Stripe, paid listings, event applications, messaging, alerts, verification, mobile apps, AI moderation, and analytics without rebuilding the core. I can provide separate estimates for planning, MVP development, and future phases, along with full source-code ownership and deployment documentation. ⭐

Hello!! A scalable UK food trade platform can be built with a properly structured database, multi-role accounts, location-based search, advanced filtering, marketplace, forum, announcements, and an architecture ready for future applications, payments, messaging, and mobile access. * Would you prefer WordPress or a custom framework for the first phase? * Should users be able to hold multiple roles from one account? * Do you already have the UK regions and categories defined? The first step will include an ERD and technical plan covering users, traders, units, events, suppliers, staff, jobs, and listings. The MVP will then be developed with clean APIs, exportable data, flexible administration, and modular features so future additions do not require rebuilding. Relevant marketplace, directory, booking, and multi-role platforms have been completed before. The foundation will be built for long-term growth, not just a quick first version. Let us discuss Phase 1 and the database structure. Best regards Farhin B

Respectfully, I reviewed your requirements and understand that you are building a long-term UK food trading platform, not a basic directory. The main challenge is designing the database and architecture correctly from the start so traders, events, suppliers, staff, marketplace listings and future features can grow without requiring a rebuild. I recommend a custom Laravel-based platform with PostgreSQL and a flexible role-based architecture. I can design the ERD first, allowing users to hold multiple roles and connecting profiles, trading units, events, applications, marketplace listings and future modules through a scalable relational structure. Radius search can use geospatial data, while advanced filtering will be built around structured database fields rather than free-text searches. I can deliver the work in separate phases: technical planning and database architecture first, followed by the MVP, then optional future features. The system can remain portable to another host, documented for future developers and prepared for later Stripe integration, APIs, mobile apps, messaging and event applications. For Phase 1, I can provide a clear database/ERD diagram and technical plan before development begins so the full architecture is approved first. Do you already have a target budget range for Phase 1 planning and the Phase 2 MVP build? Lets discuss more in chat Portfolio: https://www.freelancer.pk/u/zainalitariq245 Thanks.

I have experience building scalable marketplace and directory platforms with multi-role users, structured databases, advanced search/filtering, location-based matching, profiles, listings, and admin management. I understand the main challenge here is getting the foundation right from the beginning so features like event applications, messaging, payments, jobs, subscriptions, mobile apps, and AI moderation can be added later without rebuilding the core system. I would recommend starting with the database/ERD and architecture before development, covering users and roles, trader units, events, suppliers, staff, marketplace listings, and future relationships. I can build the MVP with structured searchable data, radius/location search, advanced filters, role-based dashboards, and an admin panel where categories and content can be managed without coding. The codebase and database can also be kept portable and documented for future developers. I can start immediately. One question: do you already have a preferred hosting environment, or should I recommend the stack, database, hosting, and search architecture based on the expected scale? My suggestion is to complete Phase 1 first and get the ERD and technical architecture approved before starting the MVP.

Hello, This platform has a clear hidden challenge: if the data model is weak now, every future feature will become expensive later. I’ve built scalable PHP/MySQL platforms with structured profiles, multi-role accounts, advanced filtering, and modular architectures that stay easy to extend. I’d recommend a clean database-first build with proper relations for users, trader units, events, suppliers, staff, forum posts, marketplace listings, and future applications. I can map the ERD, define searchable fields, explain role handling, exportability, ownership, plugin/licence needs, Stripe/API readiness, and ensure the system can be moved or handed over later without lock-in. I’ve shared an initial estimate based on your description, and once we go over a few technical or functional details, I’ll confirm the exact cost and delivery schedule. The best next step is Phase 1 planning so the MVP is built on the right foundation from day one. Which platform do you want as the foundation: WordPress/WooCommerce, Laravel, or a custom PHP build, given the long-term expansion roadmap? Looking forward to your reply so we can finalize the exact plan. Best regards, Asad

Hi, I’ve reviewed the full scope and agree with your main concern: Stage 1 should not be built cheaply in a way that forces a rebuild when applications, subscriptions, messaging, jobs, mobile/API and advanced event workflows are added later. I recommend starting with a proper relational data model and API-first architecture. One account can support multiple roles, with separate role-specific profile tables for traders, organisers, suppliers and staff. Traders can own multiple trading units; organisers can own multiple events; future applications can then link traders directly to events without changing the core model. For location search I’d use postcode geocoding plus latitude/longitude and radius queries, while advanced filters would operate against structured fields rather than free text. Admin-managed categories, exports, future Stripe billing and mobile API access would all be designed into the foundation. Phase 1: £450 fixed / 5 days Includes ERD, database schema, role model, search/filter architecture, hosting recommendation, ownership/portability plan and Phase 2 milestone estimate.

Hi, I have carefully reviewed the detailed project description for the Scalable UK Food Trade & Event Catering Platform. To ensure a successful build, I propose developing this platform using the Laravel framework due to its robust features, scalability, and flexibility for future expansions. The database will be structured using MySQL for efficient data management and retrieval. Users will have the ability to have multiple roles, and advanced filtering and location search functionalities will be implemented using geolocation services. The admin panel will allow easy category management without coding, and all data will be exportable for flexibility. The custom code and database will be owned by you, and minimal paid plugins will be required. Stripe integration and an API for a future mobile app will be seamlessly added. Future event applications will connect traders and events through an intuitive interface. I look forward to discussing the technical planning and database structure in detail. Thank you.
