Hi, one Tableau workbook and one Power BI report over the same sales and ops data. The trap is both tools quietly disagreeing on the same number. How we would build it: clean the CSV and SQL sources into one model with the measures defined once, then point both tools at it so filters and drill downs return matching figures. After that a short recorded walkthrough of the refresh. Can we connect to the SQL box directly or will it come as extracts? Building the same dashboard twice in two tools is the part worth thinking about before anyone starts, because it's where this quietly goes wrong. Tableau and Power BI don't share a data model. Same CSVs and SQL, two separate semantic layers, two sets of calculated measures written in different languages. Build them independently and within a month the two reports disagree on a number, usually something like an average, because one is averaging rows and the other is averaging a pre-aggregated figure. Then nobody trusts either. So I do the modelling once, upstream, in SQL. Conformed dimensions, a proper date table, and every business metric defined as one view with one definition. Both tools then read the same shaped tables and the measures inside each become thin. That is what makes the two agree by construction rather than by careful checking. The related one is your refresh requirement. A workbook or a report pointed at a file path breaks the moment the file moves or is replaced, and worse, it can refresh successfully while still showing last week. Parameterised connections and a named folder, so refresh is genuinely one click. Deliverables as you set them out: one Tableau workbook, one Power BI report, clean model with labelled measures, and the handoff walkthrough recorded so your team can replay it.
