I. JOB SUMMARY
Performs a variety of accounting, payroll, bookkeeping, and sales tax services for small businesses. Provides advice, delivering advice products and client-based products to small businesses and small business owners including client on boarding. Completion of tax returns as needed. In addition, this position will partner with Tax Professionals to deliver client bookkeeping and payroll information in order for the Tax Professional to complete the tax return.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Check and verify source documents such as invoices, receipts, computer printouts, etc.
Post financial transaction details to subsidiary books and general ledger.
Convert warm leads into clients and increase retention through referrals and partnerships.
Identify opportunities to increase the level of service provided to small businesses and their owners as their requirements become more complex.
Identify client satisfaction issues and review issues on a timely basis.
Identify the schedule of charges for clients and process/collect accordingly.
Communicate (both in verbal and written form) with clients, client suppliers, vendors and banking contacts.
Provide guidance and assistance to other bookkeepers and tax preparers, as needed, to ensure the timely and accurate completion of duties.
Prepare applicable tax forms and schedules, including 1099's and W-2's, Schedule C, Form 990, Form 1041, Form 1065, etc.
Assure confidentiality and privacy at all times.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of twelve hours of college-level accounting coursework or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of three years experience providing accounting and payroll services
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, bookkeeping practices and procedures
Knowledge of sales and payroll tax laws, payroll practices, and applicable regulations
Analytical and detail-oriented with high organizational skills
Ability to collect, analyze, and summarize financial data and assimilate into useful format
Ability to work with limited supervision and independently
Possess a passion for working with small business owners
Ability to develop and maintain effective client and coworker relationships
Ability to work under pressure; possesses the stamina to meet the time deadlines inherent in the tax and accounting profession
Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong command and use of the English language
Ability to treat confidential information with professionalism and discretion
Willingness and ability to learn new skills, think critically, and adapt to situations as they change
Understanding of Windows-based computers and Microsoft Outlook
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Open Office and similar software
IV. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Xero accounting software or Xero certified (training can be provided)
Prior management experience
Prior experience preparing tax returns (training can be provided)
Experience with Quickbooks
