The Soccer Invitational I made the team! For the past two weeks we've been doing soccer drills under the supervision of Mr Landry, our physical education teacher. Every year we got to play in a soccer tournament against seven other schools and only the best players are selected. The school bus hit a pothole and bounced us around and everyone shouted in excitement. Mr. Landry told us to be quiet and our journey continued. Unable to sit still, I turn to the team captain, Alex who has been looking out through the window throughout the trip. “I hear our school has never won this tournament.” He ignores me but Dan from the backseat replies, “Yes, and we will never win it because the boys from Freedom High are so much bigger.” Soon we get to the stadium where seven school buses from the other schools had also just arrived. We are eager to get off but Mr Landry asks us to wait. “I wonder what the problem is,” Alex mutters. We’ve been waiting impatiently for like five minutes when Mr Landry returns. He’s all red in the face and stands with both hands on his hips. “I’m afraid. We have a problem.” He sighs. “The cup has disappeared.”
