Routing, visibility, and long-term cost shape look very different on each path. Either way the first pass is the same: inventory the existing footprint (SteelHeads, SteelCentral / NetProfiler, in-path rules, QoS classes, AutoDiscovery or IPsec tunnels), confirm peer endpoints and real traffic, then size the target. SteelHead-V on EC2 or Azure works, but needs Gateway Load Balancer or route-table tricks so optimization actually sits in path. Going native swaps the appliance for TGW/vWAN + VPC Flow Logs or NSG flow analytics, which also reshapes the SteelCentral story. That fork drives M1.
