An overview of the design.
Power supply: 10-30VDC. Typical 24 VDC.

Microprocessor used: PIC16F886-I/SS
Circuit to switch power on/off to road lights mounted on train trolley, based on forward/reverse movement.
Unit is powered by 24 V. This is converted to [url removed, login to view] to power control circuit.
PIC controls power to lights by opening/close the negative rail to lights via Q1 or Q2
Upon power, default condition is forward direction so Q1 is ON, Q2 off.
PIC to monitor Accelerometer.
If sensing a forward movement keep Q1 ON, else if reverse then Q1 off and Q2 off.
IF not change of direction, and movement keep last state ON.
If inertia is Zero (unit stand still) for more than 2 minutes (test trial, may need to change time or remove later) turn all off.
Software has to monitor change of direction not inertia, as the accelerometer may sense braking as inertia.

Did you use I2C or the SPI interface for the accelerometer? What is the acceleration of the hardware? At what speed did you clock the PIC16 877? What compiler would you like? Hi-Tech or MPLAB C16
