I am seeking a California-licensed structural engineer to review and provide stamped calculations for a minor residential alteration in Carnelian Bay, CA (Placer County). The Project: Scope: Installation of one (1) new 36" x 36" wood casement window in an existing loft wall. Framing: Exterior load-bearing wall (2x4 construction). Load Condition: The header supports roof load only (no floor loads). Code Cycle: 2025 California Residential Code (CRC) / 2025 CBC. The Issue: I have drafted the architectural and structural sheets (PDFs attached). Currently, my plans specify a (1) 4x6 Douglas Fir #2 header based on standard prescriptive tables. However, because the property is in a high snow load region (Lake Tahoe Basin), I expect this header size is insufficient and the prescriptive tables will not be accepted by the building department. Scope of Work: Calculate Snow Load: Determine the required design snow load for the specific address (Carnelian Bay, CA 96140). Size the Header: Calculate the correct header size (e.g., 4x8, 4x10, 4x12, or LVL) for a 36" rough opening to withstand the local snow load. Deliverable: Provide a stamped and signed structural calculation sheet (8.5x11 PDF) verifying the header size, king/jack stud requirements, and nailing schedule. This document must be ready for submission to the Placer County Building Department. Project Inputs Provided: Project Address: 5101 N Lake Blvd, Carnelian Bay, CA. Current Plans: Floor Plan (A2.1) and Framing Detail (S2.1). +1 Existing Framing: 2x4 walls @ 16" O.C. Timeline: I have the plans ready and need the stamped calculation sheet within 5 business days.
