I have already poured 141,000 words—twenty raw, unfiltered chapters—onto the page. Now I want those pages shaped into a memoir that sounds exactly like me: a sixty-four-year-old who has survived life altering experiences, and sees life as equal parts triumph, tragedy, and a sarcastic sense of humour appropriately sprinkled in. The draft is rich with childhood, family, friends, career highs and lows, and survival of many daunting situations I want a record of for my children and grandchildren. Every scene needs to keep my humour, my rhythm, my occasional salty aside, while also carrying the reflective weight and dramatic punch each moment deserves. In short: reflective and poignant, dramatic and intense, often all at once. But also approprite light-hearted and humorous moments Here’s what I’m looking for: • A seasoned ghostwriter roughly my age, cultural background, etc so the references, attitudes, and music cues land naturally. I have spent half my life in South Africa, and the other half in Canada. • Someone who can weave narrative storytelling with a conversational, detailed style letting readers feel like we’re sharing a drink while I tell the story in my authentic voice. • An editor’s eye for tightening exhausting passages, elevating key beats, and protecting authenticity. * Also, I want to capture descriptions of areas, seasons, locations etc as I remember them. Process I imagine You interview me, interrogate all the stuff I've written 1. You sample-edit a chapter so we hear my voice together. 2. We agree on tone, pacing, and structure adjustments. 3. You move through the manuscript in batches, returning polished sections for my review and annotation. 4. Final pass ensures continuity, humour timing, and emotional resonance. Acceptance criteria – Finished manuscript that reads as though I wrote it, but acknowledging the ghost writer by name. – Clear narrative arc connecting family, career, and personal struggles from my viewpoint (and some from my wife where appropriate for accuracy). – Consistent voice, balanced humour and gravity, stay in my voice so that when I record this as an audio book, its literally me talking. If you’ve successfully captured another author’s voice before, can capture hardship and success stories, can relate to both so you know how it really feels, can capture my humour appropriately, and are ready to tackle 141k words and challenge me and the words, and produce a record that is also an interesting page-turner, let’s meet on Teams to see if there is a fit
