Ghostwriter / Senior Editor Needed for WWII Legacy Book (Easy Company – Band of Brothers – Archival & Illustrated Nonfiction) Project Overview I am seeking an experienced ghostwriter and senior editor to take over and complete a historically significant WWII nonfiction book centered on my father, Burton “Pat” Christenson, an original Easy Company paratrooper (101st Airborne, 506th PIR). This is not a generic war memoir. It is a legacy project built on rare first-person material, original wartime artwork, letters, and archival documents that directly contributed to Band of Brothers. The goal is a publication-ready, emotionally grounded, historically authentic book that honors a real man and stands alongside the most respected WWII nonfiction. Why This Book Matters My father: Was an original Easy Company paratrooper Was one of a small number of primary contributors whose firsthand accounts helped shape the book Band of Brothers Created original wartime drawings, including a self-portrait that appears inside the book Band of Brothers itself That same drawing was later reproduced as lithographs, displayed in museums, and etched into a granite memorial in France honoring the Easy Company men who died on D-Day Left behind extensive personal writings, letters, and reflections spanning training, combat, and post-war life This book tells the story behind the drawings and words that helped define how the world understands Easy Company — and the man who created them. It is about: Endurance and character under pressure The lived reality behind Easy Company The human being behind historically important words and images Current Status of the Manuscript Approximately 60,000 words of existing material Content includes: My father’s original wartime writings Letters home written during WWII Interviews with family members Historical articles and archival documents A full structural outline has already been developed The manuscript now needs: Cohesive narrative flow Strong transitions and connective tissue Selective ghostwriting where needed Senior-level editorial shaping into a unified, compelling book Visual & Archival Materials (Critical to This Project) This is an illustrated and archival-rich book, not text-only nonfiction. Materials include: 40–45 original wartime drawings by my father (including the drawing featured in Band of Brothers and memorialized in France) 20–30 historical photographs Numerous letters, inscriptions, and articles that must be: Carefully reviewed Contextualized Thoughtfully woven into the narrative You will not be responsible for final design or layout, but you will be expected to: Recommend where drawings and photos belong editorially Identify moments where visuals strengthen the story Ensure the archival material is integrated meaningfully, not dropped in Role & Responsibilities I am looking for one primary freelancer who can function as: ✔ Ghostwriter Write connective passages where needed Preserve my father’s authentic voice Add clarity and continuity without embellishment ✔ Senior Editor Shape and refine existing material Improve pacing, structure, and narrative cohesion Maintain historical and emotional integrity ✔ Project Finisher Bring the manuscript to full publication readiness Work toward a hard, public deadline Communicate clearly and professionally throughout Tone & Style Requirements Historically grounded Emotionally restrained Authentic and respectful Strong but quiet voice No Hollywood dramatics or sensationalism This book is about truth, endurance, and legacy. Timeline (Non-Negotiable) Target release date: June 6, 2026 (D-Day Anniversary) Manuscript must be fully completed by: April 1, 2026 This allows time for design, proofing, and uploads to KDP and other platforms Please do not apply unless you are confident you can meet this timeline. Ideal Freelancer Profile You are a strong fit if you have: Experience ghostwriting or editing nonfiction (history, biography, legacy projects) Comfort working with primary source materials (letters, archives, artwork) Respect for WWII history and veterans’ stories Clear, professional communication The ability to take ownership and finish a complex manuscript Bonus (not required): Familiarity with Band of Brothers Experience with illustrated or archival books How to Apply Please include: Why this project resonates with you Relevant experience (ghostwriting, editing, historical nonfiction) 1–2 nonfiction samples Your availability between now and April 1 Your experience working with visual and archival material This is a serious, historically meaningful project. I am looking for a partner who understands that.
