ROMANS: BUMPER Creative Brief & Storyboard Runtime: Approximately 30–35 seconds Style: Cinematic, dramatic, reverent, awe-inspiring Narration: Deep, authoritative male voice — Scripture only, ESV Music: Cinematic instrumental beginning minimal and atmospheric, building steadily into a powerful orchestral crescendo Primary Themes: God's sovereignty, providence, faithfulness, and the smallness of man in light of an infinite God. CREATIVE DIRECTION The video should begin in complete darkness and near silence, confronting the viewer with the question: “But who are you, O man, to answer back to God?” From there, the visuals should progressively expand in scale—from one small human life, to the forces of nature, to the vastness of creation. The emotional journey should move from: Human uncertainty → God's sovereignty → God's providence → God's faithfulness → Awe and worship. The goal is not merely to make God feel powerful. The audience should come away with the sense that: Though we are small and cannot fully understand His ways, the God who sovereignly rules all things is faithful and purposeful in all things. TIMED STORYBOARD 0:00–0:05 — DARKNESS / THE QUESTION Visual Complete black screen. No imagery at first. Possibly an extremely subtle low rumble or atmospheric sound, but no music yet. Voiceover — Romans 9:20 (ESV) “But who are you, O man, to answer back to God?” Direction The voice should be slow, deep, and authoritative. Allow space between: “But who are you…” and: “…O man…” Then: “…to answer back to God?” The viewer should feel confronted by the question. 0:05–0:10 — THE SMALLNESS OF MAN Visual As the final words of the verse are spoken, a faint image begins emerging from darkness. Reveal a single human figure, alone. The human should appear visually small and insignificant within the frame. Potential environments: Standing beneath massive storm clouds Standing before an enormous mountain range Standing on a vast shoreline Standing beneath an expansive night sky The camera should slowly pull farther away, emphasizing the scale difference between man and creation. Voiceover — Romans 9:20 (ESV) “Will what is molded say to its molder, ‘Why have you made me like this?’” Music A low cinematic tone begins underneath the narration. 0:10–0:15 — THE CREATOR / THE CREATED Visual Cut from the human figure to close, detailed imagery of a potter's hands shaping clay. The imagery should feel cinematic and organic—not overly literal or staged. Intercut briefly between: Hands shaping clay The small human figure Natural forces such as waves, wind, or clouds The visual idea is: The Creator is distinct from the created. No additional narration beyond Scripture. 0:15–0:22 — PROVIDENCE / PURPOSE Visual Transition into the uncertainty and complexity of human life. Storm clouds begin to break. The camera moves toward an expanding horizon. Potential imagery: Sunlight breaking through clouds A river continuing its course A sunrise over mountains The human figure now facing the light Voiceover — Romans 11:29 (ESV) “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” Direction Give particular emphasis to: “…are irrevocable.” This should be a moment of certainty and confidence. The visual transition from darkness to light should reinforce the faithfulness of God. 0:26–0:30 — AWE Visual The camera and imagery now expand beyond the individual human experience. Move into increasingly vast imagery: Mountains Oceans Clouds moving across the earth Stars Galaxies The earth from above The scale should now feel overwhelming. The imagery should communicate that everything exists within God's sovereign rule and ultimately for His glory. The final word: “Amen.” lands with the musical climax. FINAL TITLE CARD ROMANS Hold briefly over the final sustained musical impact.
