As an energy engineer, you are assigned with the duty of performing a life cycle assessment (LCA) study on different types of power plants to investigate their comparative environmental performances. Specifically, you are requested to do the following tasks: 1. Determine the life cycle emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), volatile organic compounds (VOC), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), sulphur oxides (SOx), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) associated with coal-fired power plants considering a functional unit of 1 MJ 2. Find and compare the above-listed life cycle emissions for combined heat and power (CHP) power plants utilizing the (a) steam Rankine cycle, (b) Brayton cycle, (c) Combined Cycle 3. Determine and compare the life cycle emissions associated with a natural gas-based combined cycle power plant both with and without CO2 capturing 4. Determine and compare the life cycle emissions associated with the electricity mixes of Canada and the U.S. 5. Provide recommendations to enhance the environmental performances of the different types of power plants considered 6. Prepare a technical report to present your results. Include a cover page followed by the problem statement, analysis, results and discussion, closing remarks and references
