I write study materials that summarize technical material at a higher level so that students can use our study manuals to review the syllabus more quickly. I'm looking to expand to other exams/syllabuses
The subject matter is probably 70% articles and 30% math/statistics. The math texts are not necessarily all math, there is a lot of text about the concepts and then a bit of formulas, etc.
While I do not need someone that understands the details of the text, I need someone with good english writing skills. The idea is that this person would summarize the articles in a somewhat granular manner (in microsoft word). They could then send these articles to me and I will summarize them at a less granular level (but it's helping me a lot since most of the material will now be transcribed into microsoft word.)
For the math portion of the syllabus, it will be crucial to use formula editor for microsoft word (or some similar technology) for any formulas so that the formulas appear "pretty" in microsoft word.
There will also be charts / graphs / etc in some of the texts. To the extent that those graphs are "easily" replicated, I'd look for someone to recreate something relatively similar to the graphs/charts in the text.
The syllabus comprises roughly 2500 pages via various textbooks, articles, etc. I have all of this material in PDF format (basically scanned versions of the text). There are actually 5 or 6 syllabi (2500 pages each) that I'm interested in summarizing (long term).
Another component of this project would be taking certain portions of the text that are clearly "lists" (e.g. their are bullet points) and copy these into a certain format in microsoft excel
The syllabus changes either every 6 months or every 12 months. I'd need someone that could commit to doing this work every 6 or 12 months. The initial summary of the syllabus would be 2500ish pages, but then each time the syllabus changes, there will be much fewer pages to update (e.g. 300 pages)
I believe the best approach would be:
1) I sent you a sample of a text (say, roughly 30 pages). I have attached 3 sample texts. Two are more "mathy" one is not "mathy" at all
2) We discuss what I'm looking for in more detail
3) You summarize the text so that I can review the quality
4) You tell me how many pages you can do, what your timeline looks like, what your rates look like, etc
5) We agree on a "longer term relationship"
6) As time moves on, there will back and forth (e.g. I'll say text ABC was too granular or text XYZ was not granular enough)
I need someone that I can have a good working relationship with via skype/email/whats app/etc, someone that can work independently, someone that isn't afraid to reach out with questions but also doesn't need to have their hand held the whole way.
The deadlines are generally around early May and early November. So when starting a new syllabus, we'd work towards those dates. About 6 weeks before early May/November, I'll get the PDFs for the syllabus "updates" (roughly 300 pages per syllabus) and those will need to be incorporated as well.
I have put $3000 to $5000, but this will be in segments. We may start out with a $250 engagement, then move to a $1000 engagement, then back down to $250, etc. I don't want to find "someone new" each time. This could easily end up being over $10,000. I want to have one resource that I can continue to go to for help. If things go well, this could be some consistent work for 3 or 4 months per year.
