I am undertaking a city-scale urban management initiative that balances two priorities in equal measure: updating our official zoning schema and creating a comprehensive, GIS-ready street-naming database. The goal is to deliver a single, authoritative geospatial layer that planners, utility companies, emergency services, and the public can rely on. Scope of work • Compile, clean, and geocode all existing street centre-lines, then apply a logical, culturally appropriate naming convention. • Digitise or reconcile current zoning ordinances into one seamless city layer so every parcel clearly reflects its designated land-use category. • Ensure every feature is topology-clean and compatible with common platforms such as ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and web-map services (WMS/WFS). • Provide clear metadata explaining naming rules, zoning codes, and any assumptions made. Acceptance criteria 1. Shapefile/GeoPackage (or equivalent) containing streets with finalised names plus a field for legacy names. 2. Shapefile/GeoPackage detailing zoning classifications city-wide, ready for publication on our open-data portal. 3. PDF map series and a brief technical note documenting workflow and validation checks. If you have experience aligning municipal datasets, handling large geospatial files, and producing polished cartographic outputs, your expertise will be invaluable on this project.

Hi, I’d approach this as a data-normalization and map-production workflow: first reconcile the street centre-lines and zoning sources, then build a clean geodatabase structure with consistent fields, topology checks, and export-ready layers for publication. My approach would include: - Cleaning and geocoding street centre-lines, then standardizing final names and preserving legacy names in a separate field. - Reviewing zoning ordinances and digitizing/reconciling boundaries into one citywide polygon layer with clear land-use codes. - Running topology and attribute QA in ArcGIS Pro/QGIS to catch overlaps, gaps, duplicates, and naming inconsistencies. - Preparing GeoPackage/Shapefile deliverables plus metadata for codes, naming rules, and assumptions. - Producing a concise PDF map series and technical note with validation steps and cartographic standards. With 10+ years in GIS and remote sensing, I’ve worked extensively with ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, spatial data management, cartography, and Python/ArcPy for structured geoprocessing. I can begin by reviewing a sample of your street. Best regards, Sujeewa GISPromo IT Solutions

Hi, I’m Akshay Loya, a GIS professional with 10+ years of experience working on GIS application development, spatial data management, mapping and large-scale geospatial datasets. This project is closely aligned with work I’ve handled involving parcel/street datasets, digitisation, spatial data cleanup, topology validation, attribute standardisation and preparation of GIS layers for both desktop and WebGIS environments. I can handle the complete workflow from cleaning and reconciling the existing street and zoning data through topology checks, geodatabase/GeoPackage preparation, metadata and final cartographic outputs. I’m comfortable across ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, PostGIS and OGC services such as WMS/WFS. One thing I’d like to understand before proposing the exact workflow: how complete are the existing street centreline, parcel and zoning datasets, and are the zoning ordinances currently available as GIS data, CAD, PDF maps, or a combination of these? Best, Akshay

Hi, I can consolidate your municipal street and zoning datasets into a clean, authoritative GIS database ready for ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and WMS/WFS publication. I’ll clean and geocode street centre-lines, implement a consistent naming structure while preserving legacy names, and reconcile zoning ordinances into a seamless city-wide layer. I’ll also perform topology and attribute validation, standardize zoning codes, and document all naming rules, assumptions, data sources, and QA/QC checks. Deliverables will include the final GeoPackage/shapefiles, PDF map series, and a concise technical workflow/metadata document. I can also provide examples of relevant GIS/data-cleaning work to demonstrate fit.

Hi, two clean layers a city can publish: street centrelines carrying a final name plus a legacy name field, together with a parcel level zoning layer that closes with no gaps. How I'd work it: centrelines into PostGIS, geocoded then deduped, topology checks for dangles, overshoots and slivers, then the naming rule applied as a script so the same input always gives the same name. Zoning second, ordinance polygons snapped to parcel edges so every parcel gets exactly one class. Out as GeoPackage, with the PDF series from a QGIS print layout. How many street kilometres are we talking about? I've done the same clean and validate loop on municipal address data. Regards, Zohaib

Hello there, I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to your citywide urban management initiative by updating the zoning schema and creating a comprehensive street-naming GIS database. My approach would involve compiling, cleaning, and geocoding existing street centre-lines while applying a logical naming convention. Additionally, I would digitize zoning ordinances to create a seamless city layer and ensure compatibility with platforms like ArcGIS Pro and QGIS. My experience in handling large geospatial files and aligning municipal datasets makes me well-suited for this project. Looking forward to discussing further. Thanks, Manisha

A reliable integration needs clear ownership of every record and a defined response when one system fails. I would map the source of truth, authentication and field rules, implement the workflow with validation, retries and logging, then test success, duplicate, timeout and partial-failure cases in sandbox. The handover would include the configuration, error path and the acceptance test that proves the automation is working. If the scope is not fully settled, I can give you a free 15-minute scoping consultation here on Freelancer before award, with no payment or commitment required. Which system is the source of truth, and is sandbox access available? Kind regards, Dixon

Updating zoning schemas and creating a GIS-ready street-naming database for a city is a substantial challenge, especially when balancing the needs of various stakeholders. I've worked on similar projects where integrating multiple data sources and ensuring cultural relevance in naming conventions were crucial for successful outcomes. I noticed that your project aims for a cohesive geospatial layer, which is vital for planners and emergency services. My approach would involve meticulously cleaning and geocoding existing data while applying a logical naming convention that reflects community values. Ensuring topology cleanliness and compatibility with platforms like ArcGIS Pro and QGIS will be a top priority. With my experience in aligning municipal datasets and producing high-quality cartographic outputs, I can help deliver the authoritative layer you need. Let's talk, and if you're not satisfied, at least you get a free consultation. Regards, Wame769Swart

Hi, I have experience with GIS mapping, basemap preparation, spatial data cleaning, georeferencing, attribute-table management, and map production using QGIS. I can clean and organize the street center-line data, create fields for current and legacy street names, reconcile/digitize zoning polygons, check topology, and prepare publication-ready GIS layers. I can deliver GeoPackage/Shapefile files, PDF map sheets, and a clear technical note documenting the workflow, naming rules, zoning codes, and validation checks. I can work fully in QGIS and ensure the final files remain compatible with ArcGIS Pro and common GIS platforms. I’m available to start immediately. Could you please share the existing street, parcel, zoning, and city-boundary datasets, along with the zoning ordinance/code list and any approved street-naming rules?

Hello, I hope you're doing well. I work with municipal GIS data, topology checks, geocoding, and ArcGIS/QGIS-ready outputs. I’ve handled street centre-lines and parcel layers where legacy names and zoning codes needed reconciliation into clean GeoPackages. I’d start with schema review, validation rules, and metadata before producing the map series. Could we discuss the source data and WMS/WFS publishing requirements? Thank you, Zohaib

Hi! I’d be interested in contributing to a defined part of this project. I can help with the GIS data preparation and cartographic side, including organizing provided data in ArcGIS Pro, basic data cleaning, creating/editing GIS features and shapefiles/GeoPackages, and producing a clear map layout/PDF. This would cover a clearly defined portion of the project. If additional or more advanced GIS work is required, we can discuss that separately based on the scope. If this approach works for you, I’d be happy to discuss which part you would like me to handle.
