The part I would want to get right is the AI analytics, because performance insights about someone's child have to be defensible. How I would build it: - JWT auth via Cognito, with parent-scoped access enforced server-side on every endpoint. A parent must never be able to reach another family's records by changing an ID — and that check belongs in the API, not the client. - CRUD for parents and students with clean validation and consistent error responses. - Presigned S3 uploads directly from the browser, so files never route through the API — correct choice for cost and for large PDFs. - Extraction and OCR pipeline normalising reports into a consistent structure before analysis. This is the step that determines whether the AI output is useful: an LLM handed raw OCR text produces vague generalities. - Analysis grounded in the extracted data, with strengths and trends traceable to specific reports rather than invented. For a product parents will act on, that traceability matters.
