Live ball-by-ball tracking needs the input tap to be one thumb press, not a form. I'll build the session recorder around a single fast-entry screen, store sessions in Room with a repository layer so a Firebase swap later is a config change, and use MPAndroidChart for the post-session visuals. "Real time" is the hard part here, and it's a usability problem rather than a technical one. Whoever is logging can't operate a detailed form between deliveries - not at the crease, and not a coach watching from the boundary. So the input is one tap per ball on targets large enough to hit without looking: dot, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, wicket. Strike rate, boundary count and time at the crease are all derived from that, never typed. If logging a session takes attention away from watching it, the app doesn't get used. That same choice answers your custom-metrics requirement. Store the ball-by-ball events and derive every statistic from them, and a new metric later is a definition rather than a schema change and an app update. Store the metrics themselves as columns and each addition costs a migration. On the Firebase point: the way to keep that cheap is a repository interface with a Room implementation now, so cloud becomes a second implementation instead of a rewrite. One detail matters more than the architecture though - every session and every ball gets a UUID generated on the device, not an auto-increment integer. Auto-increment ids collide the moment a second device syncs, and that is what usually makes these migrations painful later.
