A KDP upload for a second edition has two failure points that matter more than the mechanics: making sure Amazon doesn't flag it as duplicate content of the first edition, and making sure your new edition isn't auto-linked to the original publisher's listing. Since yours is independent by agreement, I'd give it its own ISBN and clean metadata so it stands entirely on its own record. "From Chemistry to Life on Earth" also carries figures and equations, and that's where most science-book uploads go wrong. Reflowable EPUB reshuffles diagrams and can break equation spacing, so I either go fixed-layout or hand-check every figure in the KDP previewer after conversion, so nothing floats onto the wrong page or clips on smaller screens. The cover gets validated against KDP's exact spec before submission. I'd work over screen-share from your laptop and take the full process end to end: manuscript formatting, cover, metadata, categories and keywords for discoverability, territory and pricing, tax and payout setup, then a complete previewer pass on phone, tablet and e-ink before you publish. You approve each step; nothing goes live without your sign-off. One thing that shapes the cleanest path: is the interior a Word file or a print-ready PDF? That decides how we handle the conversion.
